Urban anthropology is a new and still developing branch of anthropology. Cities are important and significant research areas and anthropology is making significant contributions to this study. An urban anthropologist can play a significant role in these studies. Anthropology brings a unique approach to the study of urban phenomena. Urban anthropologist studies population of urban areas that can extend from most primitive to most complex industrial urban locales.

Mrs. Darshna Tyagi (b. 1969) is an eminent scholar in the field of sociology and history. Her contribution in these field is worth mentioning. She has done her post graduation in sociology and history and MPhil (Sociology) from Delhi University. A prolific writer, she has authored a number of books and research papers. Her papers and articles have been published in many national and international journals. Presently she is associated with many educational institutions as a visiting faculty and is engaged with a number of projects.
