Micromax Superfone A85 : Mobile

Not what the customers expected!!!

first to review

I was one of the many consumers, who were eagerly waiting for this phone. But atlast it turned out to be a great disappointment. Why? See below.

1. Android Version - While every other manufacturer is striving to release mobiles based on ice cream sandwich, micromax was able to give us only Froyo. What a pity!!

2. Battery Life - We all know dual core is a battery sucker. How is the 1500 mAh battery going to stand against the hungry processor? We have to wait for reviews, but still it's a big let down.

3 Price - We all buy Micromax not because of brand loyalty but only for the 'value for money'. I was expecting this to be priced around 13-14k range. But lets wait and see... If the sales are alarmingly low, MicroMax will defenitely reduce the price.

This is an over priced mobile with poor battery and obsolete OS. Sure there are some postive reasons to buy it, but defenitely the negatives overweigh them.

After all, you are not the mobile you use...

I generally don't write reviews but writing this one because like many others I struggled a lot for past ten days, to collect information about this mobile. I want to help all those poor souls by sharing my experience about A18.

Why A18? First my budget was fixed. 10K. So I had only two options MM A100 and K A18. I was inclined towards A18 because the reviews said it is faster than A100.usage (My personal opinion) A100 is bit too large for daily Also A100 wasn't available in any shop in my city. All the shops asked me to pre-book and wait for 2-3 days. So I forgot A100 and happily chose A18.

My Observations:

Looks? The device isn't thick. After seeing the photos, I thought it would be thick. But No. It is quite slim and light weight. The only drawback is the silver band around the mobile. It looks really cheap. From the front side it looks like costly mobile - designs are similar to Motorola. Few plus. Few minus. Overall OK.

Performance? I installed many social and productivity apps. Tested angry birds and temple run. No major lags. Working smooth. Totally satisfied with what it can do (You may differ based on your needs). Still, I don't think it will handle HD games very well. But it does play HD videos smoothly.

Battery? Charge is also Okay. I got one full day with moderate-heavy usage. But the issue is charging. It takes really looooong time to charge. Disappointed.

Camera? Good. Takes nice shots. Pretty fast. Lots of features. Though I didn't test video quality, I'm satisfied till now.

Hardware? No issues with mobile data, wifi and earphones. Only downside is the poor speakers. Had to search for a really loud ringtone and set, to hear the calls. Remaining features are really good. Screen is brilliant. Best feature of all. Touch is also smooth. Pleasant to see and use.

Conclusion?

There are two disadvantages - Long charging time and low volume speakers. If you think you can live with it, Please go ahead. Other than these, I couldn't find any issues with the device. Its really worth every penny you pay.

Don't think too much about Brand name. Just go for it.
After all, you are not the mobile you use :)

HTC A310E Explorer : Mobile

A smart looking smart fone
on 06 January 12
Kishore rated:

I'm a LG Optimus One P500 owner and advised my friend to buy the new HTC explorer after reading many reviews online. Since I own a phone that's smilar in spec and have played with explorer for a week, I think I can provide a complete review about the explorer.

Looks : This is the unique selling point of this mobile. Though it has the standard 3.2" inch screen, HTC has increased the width and reduced the height, thus making it look smaller without compromising the size. Thus it fits nicely in your hands and pockets. The steel strip on backside of the mobile makes it look expensive.

Usage : The screen looks vibrant and the touch screen is very smooth (I started doubting my P500 to be resistive after using this. But both are capacitive. Somehow HTC managed to provider smoother touch expereince). The additional Adreno 200 graphics compromises for the 600Mhz processor, thus making the apps run nicely. Still, there is lag on using graphic intensive games. But for the given price point this is justifiable.

Camera: This is the disappointing department of the mobile. It takes decent pictures in sunlight. But in other lighting conditions,it is probably not the best. Lack of LED and autofocus may disappoint a few.

HTC Sense : Enough has been said about this interface and I do accept with all others that this is one of the most intutive user skin made for android. Some features of 3.5 sense has been disbaled by HTC considering explorer's low power, but nothing significant has been removed. 10x times better than Touchwiz, MotoBlur or LG's custom skin.

Music : HTC doesn't include an earphone with this mobile. I tried my creative and seinheisser earphones with this mobile and the music output was very impressive.

Conclusion : HTC explorer is the best mobile in the price range. Samsung and LG mobiles looks cheap and 'plasticy' next to it. Though there may be few powerful alternatives for it, as a whole package explorer beats them all. It will be of great appeal to the youngsters who want an expensive looking mobile that serves all their basic needs and to ladies, who want a cute and compact mobile, that they can flash boasting to their friends.

I recommend this mobile and my rating is 4/5

Motorola Xoom : Tablet
Price: Rs. 20499
This Item is permanently discontinued.
Zoom in to the Xoom
on 06 January 12
Kishore rated:

Good News : Xoom will receive the official ice-cream sandwich update making it compelling buy for such a low price (Motorola has almost cut 11,000 rupees on the price in past few months)

Review:

Display : The screen size and resolution are higher than iPad 2. The screen is definitely comparable to iPad untill it gets retina display in next gen model. The tablet looks awkward in portrait mode and should be used in landscape mode.

Battery : One of the longest lasting in its class. Provides 3.3 days of audio play back or 8.5 hours of video (Motorola claims 10 hours). As this model without wi-fi has no cellular connectivity it should last more than the numbers I mentioned above.

Applications : Though some reviews say there is very less choice of apps, remember that they were written a year back when Xoom was introduced. Google has taken numerous steps to ensure android tablets have large number of apps to choose from. This scenario is only going to improve in the future.

Looks : The tablet looks like it has fallen from future with dark colors and sharp designs. But I have to admit that it is thicker than iPad and slightly bulky. other hand, compared to Samsung, it is definitely sexy! It also had strong build.

Features : 5mp rear camera which surprisingly takes good pictures. Stereo speakers. 2 mp front camera. 1GHz processor. A mobile with all these features and less than half of its screen size, costs same as this or more. Definitely value for money!

Verdict : After the big price slash, I have no reason not to recommend it. Motorola has provided a solid tablet with great features. Also don't forget that a Xoom2 is to be unveiled some time in future (But with higher price).

I strongly recommend it over Samsung tabs / Playbooks and other low price tabs.

My rating - 4.5/5
