Edited by bestselling author, Paritosh Uttam, this is an anthology of 29 urban tales by 13 young writers. Each of these fresh, vivid and deceptively simple stories focuses on an epiphany. The stories are set with the backdrop of our urban metros with their bright lights, sky rises, glitzy malls, tenements, crowds and the chaos that comes with it. A woman tries to come to terms with loss of a lost baby; two strangers, a young man and a young woman, both with a love for Fyodor Dostoyevsky?s Crime and Punishment board the same aircraft; a woman ponders over giving a second chance to her cheating husband; a young man is in love with his apple pie loving best friend, who is set to marry through an arranged match; a chance meeting between two old lovers after 11 years; the memories of an old woman in love; an illiterate migrant from the village looking for her own kind of liberation; the longing of a married woman for another man; a child and his silent suffering mother and their financially strapped family; a couple once in love, frustrated with each other after getting married; love and relationships in the age of Twitter and fat free gelatos; the morning after for a couple in an adulterous relationship; a man running away from his own life in the city hoping to find salvation; a couple who decide to marry for reasons other than love and many more stories...

A good read

I read this collection of short stories and was impressed by many of the stories featured. Specially those written by Paritosh Uttam. It has a variety of subjects to impress upon all its reader. A friend of mine opposite to my taste in books found it equally enjoyable.

Urban shots-a collection of short stories

Urban shots has proved to be example of a failed experiment. The stories except 2-3 are not at all entertaining. The cover is great with excellence of Westland publishers that this book could reach to a great number of readers.

Amateurish and Boorish!

This is hands down one of the most pathetic collection of short stories i have come across in quite some time now. It never looked promising to begin with but i always felt it will be a reasonably interesting affair that will help me kill my time en-route to Delhi via Shatabdi. However, i was in for… (View complete review)

Avoidable

Avoidable, the stories are amateurish, though a couple or so are engaging and competent enough.
On completion felt like questioning the authors whether they were specifically asked to write stories relating to infidelity? Or is it an exclusive/necessarily urban concept?
Someone looking for something to read on a train journey or in the car and having 100 bucks or so to spare might wish to pick it up though, in other words, timepass reading.

Utter waste of money and time

Hello,
First of all, my review is only about the book contents,
I would give 5 stars to Flipkart for its delivery process where i was always informed about the status

Now coming to the Book, i don't know why this stories got printed into a book and if so, it is not worth the money
To start with, the cover story is supposed to be the highlight of the book but here the story is so general, i believe it was made as cover story just because it is written by a celebrity (sad)
As mentioned in other reviews, there are a few sparks but not enough to start a fire
I am not a…

This is hands down one of the most pathetic collection of short stories i have come across in quite some time now. It never looked promising to begin with but i always felt it will be a reasonably interesting affair that will help me kill my time en-route to Delhi via Shatabdi. However, i was in for a surprise because by the time i crawled to the fourth story my head had started paining and spinning as if i was suffering from severe migraine, an ailment that i never had in the first place.Barring Paritosh Uttam's commendable efforts at short story telling this moronic collection of amateurish …

Mediocre!

I was looking forward to read this book of short stories by Indian authors, but I must say the book has nothing new to it, that you might not have read before in some other version. The writing is average, stories are regular... Hardly 20% of the stories offer any level of delightful reading, others range from mediocre to pure trash!

I guess its OK for its price, but if you are a serious, non-time-pass reader, then AVOID!

Good Collection

A good collection of short stories... the quality varies as there are multiple authors. A couple of the stories are actually very intense and emotional, and some could have been developed further. Overall verdict? Worth a read.

Just not happy

Usually, you dont expect the best of the stories from newbies. Sometimes they fare just good. Sometimes, even better. Well, that is not the case here. The inexperience clearly shows. 29 Discreet stories in one book. That€™s what makes it easy to differentiate the good ones from the rest. Some are too short to be even called stories. Some are like excerpts from someone’s diary. It would have been good if one could buy only the selected ones. If you have already bought it, you always have an option to sell it online coz the cover page will make it too easy for you with new gullible reader…
