Manju (Suchitra Sen) is the only daughter of a newspaper tycoon in Calcutta. When her father settles her marriage with Asit and forcefully takes her to meet her to be groom, she jumps from their train and escapes. In another train she encounters a smart loud-mouth reporter Rajat (Uttam Kumar) who has just lost his job. On the way he finds out the truth about her. He decides to help her in exchange for 10,000 rupees which her father has advertised in newspaper to give to authentic informer as a reward. Manju accepts his help as there are greedy people who might recognise her and blow the whistle on her to her father for 10,000 rupees. Their adventures begin here. After many hitch-hikes, nightly shelters, the out-of-luck reporter and runaway heiress find themselves more and more in love with each other. Rajat is afraid of expressing his feelings as he is in financially no condition to propose a rich girl like Manju. He has expected to get only the 10,000 rupees he has been badly in need of but never her heart........ What should he do now.
SAGARIKA
Sagarika (1956) is an all-time special Bengali movie with Uttam-Suchitra duo. The direction and cast are flawless and the music is one of the greatest hits of Bengali music. Jiben Bose, Namita Sinha are great in their character roles. A must watch movie.
EKTI RAAT
Ekti Raat is a movie about two couples and their relationship. Sushabhan Dutta and his wife, Anita, were invited at Digbijay babu's place. Though Anita boarded the train but Shushabhan misses the train. There, in the railway station, he meets Santana, the wife of famous political leader Brajeshwar De who was also invited in Digbijay's babu place. As the destination is same, Shushabhan and Santana start their journey in the same car, expecting that they will meet their spouses at Digbijay's babu's house. But Anita returns home in search of her husband and came to know that her husband has gone to some other palce with another woman. Anita's mother Malina Debi was highly unsatisfied with the choice of life partner of her daughter and dislikes Shushabhan. Here she gets a chance to prove that Anita's marrige with Shushabhan was wrong and they all start a journey to catch Shushabhan red handed. On the other hand, Brajeshwar De came to know that his wife has spent a night in an hotel with a unknown person whom she met in the station. When Shushabhan and Santana reaches Digbijay babu's house, they come to know that Anita did not reach there. By calling at the home he comes to know that she is searching for him. On his way he met Brajeshwar babu and tries to convince him that nothing worng had happened. Finally all the charactes reach Digbijay babu's house to judge the truth and after a lot of confusion and drama, love wins over suspician. In this way the movie ends by ensuring that trust is the base of a successful married life.
