Uttam - Suchitra Set 4 ( Sabar Upare, Bipasha, Shapmochan )

A young lawyer named Shankar Chatterjee (Uttam KUmar) lives in Patna with his mother (Shova Sen). One day his mother tells him that his father (Chhabi Biswas) is alive and is in jail for the murder of Hemangini Hazra. He goes to Krishnanagar to prove his fathers innocence. In Krishnanagar he meets Rita (Suchitra Sen). Rita likes him. Shankar starts his investigation and comes to know that his father is innocent. He wants to know all about Hemanginis murder. Sushil tells him that he knows his father, Prashanta is innocent. Sushil gives Shankar every investigation report. Sahadeb Dutta is the cousin of Hemangini. Shankar finds Sahadeb Dutta and tells him to stand in court for his father and re-open the case. Finally he proves that Sahadeb Dutta (Kamal Mitra) and Bina had told a lie on that time and that the murderer is another left handed man. Ultimately it is proved that the public prosecutor, Roy Bahadur (Shekhar Chatterjee) is the murderer. Finally court releases Prasanta Chatterjee.

BIPASHA

A son's frantic search for his mother. A wife's desperate search to get back her husband. A father's endless repentance for his mis-deeds. A revolt against society's empty rituals & rules. This is all what Bipasha comprises. Saradindu alias Swamiji (Chhabi Biswas) is a debauch who marries Labanya (Chhaya Devi) & makes her pregnant. Saradindu goes to England & there he falls in love with Elice. He keeps his marriage as a secret to Elice & when he returns back to India he blatantly rufuses to recognise Labanya as his spouse. He alleges that the son (Dibyendu) Labanya has given birth is not his offspring but a result of an illegitimate relation of Labanya. The gold hearted Labanya accepts all the false allegations & departs to Allahabad to stay alone. Dibyendu goes to stay with his grand mother. Saradindu's relation with Elice breaks & he realizes his mistakes & transforms into a Swamiji. Dibyendu (Uttam Kumar) becomes an engineer with an artistic bent of mind. He meets Bipasha (Suchitra Sen) a half punjabi half bengali woman & the 2 fall in love with each other. All goes right & the 2 decide to marry when hell breaks lose. Dibyendu's uncle (mother's brother) Mr. J. C. Mukherjee mails him a letter about his identity, that he is an illegitimate son of his mother & that his mother is residing at some dirty place in Allahabad. Dibyendu leaves the marriage ceremony & runs from pillar to post searching for his mother. Bipasha on the other hand, herself a prey at the hands of the communal riots post independance, runs after her love to bring him back & help him unravel the mystery of his identity. When Dibyendu sees Bipasha at Allahabad he bursts out & asks her not to associate her life with the life of a person who has fallen in an abyss. Dibyendu after not finding his mother tries to commit suicide by slitting his throat but fortunately servives. Astonishingly Dibyendu is saved in time by his long lost father Saradindu who is now a swamiji. When Saradindu comes to know Dibyendu is his son & Bipasha is his daughter in law he once again goes through a form of self renunciation & self realisation. Through the help of his barrister friend Mr. Guha(Pahari Sanyal) Saradindu writes a letter to the couple disclosing the actual truth & facts which were kept in the dark for 22 years. Dibyendu & Bipasha are shocked to know swamiji's real identity but they cant get hold of him as after writing the letter he departs forever. In the end Dibyendu & Bipasha find Labanya & the mother & son reunite.

SHAPMOCHAN

Mahendra, a poor village man is a very good singer, but can't sing. In his family anyone who takes singing as a profession meets with death at a very early age. He goes to Calcutta to get a job, in Calcutta he stays at a father's friend Umesh's house. He meets Madhuri, daughter of Umesh. Madhuri sends some money to Mahendra's elder brother Debendra. Debendra returns the money & writes a letter to Mahendra that when he will be able to cash his own, that time he will send the money. One day Mahendra & Madhur go to tailor's shop & there Mahindra sees a poor man get sick on the road. Mahindra helps to bring him at Madhuri's house & gives him his own blazer, Mahendra gets him his elder brother's letter. Madhuri becomes upset for that. Mahendra goes to find a job, but there is no vacany in any office. He goes to the poor man's house & sees the house owner throw out the luggage for not giving the rent for 2 months. He talls the house owner that he will pay the money on the next day. He does not have the money. He wants the money from Madhuri, but she gets angry. Mahendra leaves the house. He earns 10 rupees by singing & gives the money to the poor man,. Mahendra goes to a lodge for a job & he gets the job offer to do all the work in the market. One day Umesh gets a letter from Mahendra, Madhuri goes there to see him. Madhuri gives him a chance to perform a song in radio station. After that Mahendra becomes a famous person. The poor man wants to sell his daughter. The daughter of the poor man escapes from the house & goes to Mahendra's lodge. Madhur misunderstands his relation. Debendra listens to the voice of Mahindra on radio. In great fear he starts singing & dies. Mahendra comes to know about his elder brother's death. He comes to his village & gets fever. Khokon, nephew of Mahendra goes to Madhuri's house & brings her to Mahendra. Madhuri breaks the unlucky ' tanpura '. Mahendra gets well soon. Madhuri comes to know about her misunderstanding. She returns to his life.
