Description

Voila! Here is a story of a vaudevillian veteran, whom fate casts vicariously as both victim and villain, and whom you can call, V!

Summary of the Book

The graphic novel that inspired the super-hit movie, V for Vendetta, is a commanding story about loss of freedom and individuality. It is set in a futuristic totalitarian England - then a country with no political or personal freedom, and without any little faith in anything. The world is left aghast by nuclear war, and what was not blown up, was either wracked down by floods or crop failures. Out of the all the chaos and anarchy, there rises a man donning a Guy Fawkes mask to challenge the ruling party through his melodramatic acts of vandalism and violence. V, as he calls himself, is a man whose mission is violence, but inspiring, as he tries to bring down the government and make people see logic and sense in governing themselves. V for Vendetta is the ground-breaking graphic novel that defined sophisticated storytelling. Alan Moore's best-selling story is a brilliant depiction of totalitarianism and resistance, superbly illustrated by the renowned artist, David Lloyd. It's an enthralling tale of the hazy lines between ideological good and evil.

The Gunpowder Treason and Plot...

Alan Moore is perhaps one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. And 'V For Vendetta' is indeed the celebration, or evidence more so, of that fact.

If you've watched the movie, and expect the book to be along the similar lines (as I did) then be prepared to be wowed. 'V For Vendetta' sees More and Llyod defy the conventional nature of comic books, and indeed the graphic story telling.

Set in a future where Britain's fascist government has left the people oppressed, a revolutionary te...

Great Graphic Novel

The experience of reading the book is several notches better than the movie. The plot is little different in the movie. The beauty of the dialogue was lost in the movie. Yes...the dialogues and the language in the book is far more gripping and exciting. It explores many more themes and ideas than the movie. It has several layers of interpretation which are generally lost in the pace of a movie.

The best line 'your pretty empire took so long to build. now with a snap of history's fingers.......

Remember, remember...

V for Vendetta is one of the most memorable graphic novels ever written! It tells the story of a vigilante, known simply as V, who uses his 'terrorist' methods against a repressive fascist government in post-war England.

I have heard many people call it Alan Moore's version of 1984 - the similarities in the settings of both the novels are striking. Yet, 1984, while being an excellent and epic book, takes away all hope and leaves you feeling sad for humanity. V, on the other hand, gives you ...

The Genius of Alan Moore

Tip 1: If you ever see a book on someone's bookshelf by Alan Moore, READ IT. This demigod of irreverence and transgression has danced with the Devil all his career, and has produced works of genius in so doing. From Hell. Watchmen. V for Vendetta. Just to name three of (in my opinion) his major, far-reaching works. V for Vendetta was written as an imagined dystopia. Once you read it, you'l see that its truths abound all around us, in many different ways and degrees. V for Vendetta is a warnin...

Must read for book lovers

This book, is not just a book or a graphic novel, its a piece of history.
All very well written and illustrated. Kudos to Alan Moore and David Lloyd.

And the best part is the dystopian timeline the book is set in and numerous counts of moral ambiguity in the book.

And the protagonist, well he is an anti-hero unlike any other.

I recommend a copy for the shelf.

This was awesome.

Hard to believe that this was written in the 80s. Probably the best graphical work I have ever seen till date. The story and the gruesome artwork makes it even more appealing. Lovely work of art and a masterpiece in my opinion. Moore and Loyd certainly did justice to this project.

Must have

There isn't much I can add to the already glowing reviews except to say that if you like comics/graphic novels and don't own this one already, you owe it to yourself to buy V for Vendetta. The complex story, the excellent characterization and the stunning artwork all come together in one perfect symphony of comic panels, and I'm not exaggerating!

Get it!

Buy this book

There are a lot of excellent reviews for this book, so mine's just going to be directed at those who think 'tl;dr'.

Brilliant plot. Fantastic characters. Great dialogue. Interesting alternate history perspective. Masterpiece by one of the greatest graphic novel writers, ever.

Buy it. Read it. If you (gasp!) don't read it, lend it to other people.
