  • Description
They are bad with directions; they never know when the credit card bill is due. They have perfected the art of turning over a new leaf tomorrow. Meet the vague women in this delightful first novel that doesn't star a woman looking for the right man - because she's already found him! At twenty-two, Sharmila Chatterjee has just married her sweetheart of a few years, Abhimanyu Mishra, a somewhat eccentric if handsome twenty-three-and-a-half year old with obscure academic interests and a small fellowship that never arrives on time. They start a household in a tiny rented flat, learning to fend for themselves in the big, bad and snotty world of south Delhi, with penny-pinching landlords, some romance, and a lot of anxiety. At fifty-two, Indira Sen is not sure just how she meandered to where she finds herself now. A senior government officer and single mother, she lives with her daughter and three opinionated old people in a rambling house, drives a battered car, and has a history of credit-card induced shopaholism. The Vague Woman's Handbook is a story told with equal parts of humour, hysteria and tenderness, about the sparkling friendship between two women as they hurtle through life and its mini-crises while trading secrets in the art of survival.

    Great book - easy read

Read this book about a month back. good plot and story line. the narrative is fast paced. the author has a good sense of humour. another notable fact is that she has steered clear of unnecessary titillating scenarios that a lot of contemporary writers use to exploit the commercial angle. with hardly any physical description of characters, the author has skilfully built up her characters through their habits, emotions and actions.
    hats off to the author
and Yes, be sure to read it.

    Interesting..

Well i likfe books which r easy to correlate with n pretty much arnd our general surroundings a daily life issues. The Book is pretty much the same, relating to real time life problems we females tend to face an a bit of realistic ways to handle them also. I like the Author, the way she depicts and writes about female tendencies and issues so smoothly.

    Nicely woven

It is a slice-of-life book. The author has a nice, flowy way of narration. you may feel that nothing much happened in the book overall though :) The descriptions are very real though, and the flow of the story goes on in a nice pace. Its a different book from the run off the mill girl-meets-boy type of story!

    The Vague Book

All those of you who are used to reading good books stay away from this. Indeed the book is a vague one with nothing actually happening all through. It is impossible to understand how a senior govt official like Indira can be so incredibly unbelieveable a character.
