Summary Of The Book

Vedic Mathematics is based on an ancient technique of calculations obtained from the Vedas. Sri Bharati Krsna Tirthaji rediscovered this form of Mathematics in the early 20th century. He maintained that ancient methods were apt at solving difficult and complex problems. The text is based on the premise that rules of a mathematical order govern the universe.

In Vedic Mathematics, students can expect to find 16 sutras which discuss strategies involved in mental calculation. The text also includes forty chapters dealing with different aspects in mathematics, ranging from simple to complex difficulty levels. Some of the arithmetic topics that are covered are Factorization, Complex Mergers, Straight Squaring, Simple Equations, Quadratic Equations, Cubic Equations, Recurring Decimals, Vedic Numerical Codes, Simultaneous Quadratic Equations, Partial Fractions, Analytical Conics, Arithmetical Computations, Cube Roots, and Auxiliary Fractions.

Vedic Mathematics is written in a lucid style, and has been widely used in schools. This text, based on the 16 Vedic Sutras, is intended to help students solve difficult equations. The book was first published in 1965, five years after the death of the author. The book was written in 1957 during the author’s US tour. The current 15th edition of Vedic Mathematics was published in 2012 by Motilal Banarsidass.

About Jagadguru Swami Bharati Krsna Tirthaji Maharaj

Jagadguru Swami Bharati Krsna Tirthaji Maharaj, nee Venkatraman Shastri, was a scholar, author, and swami, who belonged to Govardhana Matha of Puri. Maharaj also authored Vedic Metaphysics and Vedic Ganit. The author had a brilliant mind. He always attained the highest standing in all his courses. When he completed his MA at the American College of Sciences in Rochester, New York, he scored the highest marks in seven of the subjects, setting the world record for that time. As a young man, he partnered with Gopal Krishna Gokhale in the National Education Movement. However, since he always had inclination towards religious studies, he continued on a spiritual path which eventually earned him a Shankaracharya title. The Swami travelled extensively across the Americas and Europe speaking about peace and the Vedanta. He passed away in 1960.
