The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is an amazing book for toddlers. It comes as board books as well as paperback; but i guess the book-tearing/mishandling fades away by 2.5 (or maybe it depends on how early the kid has been around with books). In that case, a paperback is just good.
It introduces kids to the metamorphic life-cycle of a butterfly, weekdays, fruits and other eateries. The eateries that the caterpillar eats are alien to the Indian context; and that is the only thing that is not fine with the content. The size of the book is very large when compared to the other kids' books.
It was first published in 1969 and is still a favorite buy among parents.

It is anything but a board book. A board book is one wherein the printing is done on thick paperboard. It is not so with this book. It is simply a hardcover edition, with die-cut pages. Also, the publisher is claimed by flipkart to be Penguin U.K., whereas the publisher of the book that I received was Puffin.
Otherwise, it is a delightful book ideal for toddlers, colourful, bright pictures, minimal text. Paper quality is also very good.
And as usual, flipkart and its logistics team did a topnotch job of delivering it.
However, flipkart is advised to review the description, summary and specifications of this edition.This is after all a sale by description, and the item delivered should match with its description on the site. Also, it seemed to me that the coordination of flipkart with the retailer was not up to the mark.Because, I had requested for a replacement, and was obliged with another copy of the very same edition.

I bought this book for a 20 month old and I have to say that it really caught his attention. At this stage, its a good book for teaching nos., fruits, foods, colors. You can progress to the weekdays later. The story is simple but there is a lot of potential to weave in your details in the story. The bright colors stand out and the holes in the fruits (the book has finger sized holes) where the caterpillar has eaten through adds an interesting element to the book. The sentences are short so the child is interested in what you are reading out.

The cons would probably be that it could be a li'l better priced. It is too short a story.

All in all, recommended for toddlers. It is a nice book to have in his/her collection.

I love buying books for my two year old nephew. This book is a lovely one. With a cute little story, little science, lovely illustrations. Its a board book, so you can give them to toddlers without worrying. Great buy!!

I am a teacher... so form the education perspective this book talks about: days of the week, numbers, and the most important the life cycle of a butterfly in the most exciting way possible.
The kids are always excited to re-read the book.

The next most sorted after Eric Carle book is 'Little Cloud' and 'The Tiny Seed'! A must have for your collection!
