Videocon A30

I brought this mobile today from market. I must show you all the pros and cons:

Pros:

* Auto-focus decent rear Camera with OK flash and Hd (720p) video record capability (Awesome at daytime) and tap to focus capability, front camera is almost OK. * Dual core 1 Ghz snapdragon processor and around 400 Mb ram.* 1 Gb user available internal storage. * Beautiful & Slim design. * Sensors: Proximity, Light, 3 axis, Gravity. * Screen resolution is decent, brightness is very good. * Quadrant benchmark : 2500, Nina mark 2 : 44 fps ( very good). * Plays Temple run smoothly that means all the applications will run. * 5 point multi touch ( awesome). * Skype * Etc.

Cons: (very few)

* touch sense is a bit low ( I am still finding its setting to increase its sense)
* Sometimes a bit laggy ( I dont know why)
* In box headphone is of poor quality
* Battery backup is not great but alright. (1 day after full charge)

After receiving my handset through ebay.in, I did not feel any disappointment for the price i paid.

It is 5 fingers multi-touch. I have played some of the games like Temple Run, Angry Birds Space and Raging thunder. all works smooth without lag.

System is showing 341 MB of RAM. Free ram out of the box without installing any third party application is less than 100 mb which i seems very less as they have packed the mobile with soooo many inbuilt applications and a couple of games they also provide LED flash light application, history cleaner, gesture search, skype, facebook, The Times of India news paper, sound recorder etc.

Set is having full support of Google play, maps. E-mail and Gmail is also there.

It is having 1GB phone memory dedicated for applications and out of which more than 850 MB free which is a very nice.

Weight is similar to that of samsung galaxy ace plus because I physically compared with it.

Regarding GPU, I don’t think it is having a GPU but games are playing more good in Videocon A30 than in My Sony Ericsson Live with walkman. And equally good in Galaxy ACE PLUS & Videocon A30

Battery life is very disappointing. It did not last for a single day with both sim active and I did nothing on phone except 20 mins calling during the whole day.

Ram is also an issue due to running applications which you cannot stop.

720p video on dice player is not at all running nicely. It is running in MX player.

But nice hardware and value for money 1500 MAH battery is having an issue as it lasts less than a day with both sim and data active.

I am using my Videocon A30 for 15 days and this is my first android phone. Although, earlier I used my friends' andriod phones often. The phone is very good indeed. I shall describe the phone in some detail in accordance with my experience and knowledge.

The phone uses the Qualcomm MSM8225 chipset (SOC) with two ARM Cortex A5 cores (not scorpion! Check out Flipcart) clocked at 1GHz. This is an entry level SOC by Qualcomm in their S4 Play series . The cortex A5 core using ARMv7 instruction set (architecture) is also entry an level core with 1.57 DMIPS / MHz per core. The same SOC is used on HTC Desire X, but costs around Rs. 15k. The performance of videocon A30 is good and runs temple-run & F-18 carrier very smoothly if you have lesser applications running/installed; never hangs!

The build quality of phone is very good and the reviewers have done good comparisons here.

The phone comes with 512MB RAM. This is the main reason why heavy games give jerk (some times), but never hang! Contrarily, HTC Desire X has 768MB RAM. Vediocon could have increased the price by appropriate amount and given 1GB RAM.
1GB is the phone internal memory and can be expanded to 32GB by adding micro-SD card.

Touch sensitivity and brightness of screen are good and pinch-to-zoom-in works well.
All the proximity, ambient light and gravity sensors work very well. The phone also connects to wifi well.

The A30 has 1500mAh battery. The performance of battery can be enhanced using energy saving apps from google-play. I use "easy task killer" and "easy battery saver" apps. I am not a heavy gamer and use only 2G network with 2 sims active. With this usage battery lasts for a day (more than 20hrs) with out any problem because of the apps. If connected to wifi, any android phone will drain battery and the same with A30.

The heavy battery drain in performing any task is attributed to LINUX kernal used by Andriod OS. You will find faster battery drain on laptops too with OS like ubuntu, redhat, fedora using LINUX kernal.

The camera is of average quality. With this price tag vediocon can not afford better lens for camera although the Qualcomm SOC is capable. Out door shoot is good and indoor shoot even with led flash is not appreciable.
If head-phone is used, the music quality is very good. The ear-phone coming with this phone is poor and saves some money for vediocon.

I bought this Videocon A30 for Rs. 7K. Considering the above points, build quality, performance and the price, I would assign five stars to Videocon A30.

I hope vediocon and other Indian mobile companies come out with better handsets in future.

Lets break down into the usual pros and cons.

Pros:
1. Dual core processor - Quadrant score 2566- Better than most of the phones under 10k
2. 4' inch screen and good resolution - Not too big and can be used with on hand and letters are crisp and clear.
3. Has all 3 possible sensors that can help in better usability - Light, Proximity, 3 axis Gravity.
4. Contains all the possible network and connectivity options

Cons:
1. Ram is very less to take full advantage of the dual core processor and worsened it by adding lot of default application. - Either have to disable it in the app management or might have to go to custom ROMs.
2. Headphone is of very bad quality - But mostly cant argue due to the low price of the phone.

Considering the fact that this is actually a sub 7.5k phone, it carries lot of options and if they had increased the RAM or atleast not added the extra junk apps, this would be the perfect value phone ever.

Videocon A30 Is a Good Phone.. I have been Using it for 3 days now..I bought it from Ebay.in.Its The Best phone available in the market for this Price..

It Runs on ICS with videocons little customizations which make the interface look stylish..
Its has 512 mb ram..On which about 340mb is available...
It Has a brilliant Display..Good sharp and colourfull.

The camera is a 5mp AF .Its Takes good quality photos.And Guess what ! It also has 720p video recording.

1ghz dualcore snapdragon.front camera..Skype works well..
The interface is smooth and doesn't lag.

Can play alot of games as it has adreno 203 Gpu

It has 1gb of internal storage available for apps.
and an option to select where the installed apps should be located.

The only bad thing is its in the box headphones ..they are of bad quality..And battery backupp.It Lasts for about 12hours maximum.
