Book: Violence Against Women: An Analysis Of Contemporaries Realities There has been an alarming rise in the violence and atrocities against women in the society. Despite our commitment to equality and end, women continue to occupy a lower status in the society making them vulnerable to various forms of atrocities. Dowry menace is spreading its dimension and women are treated as commodities for satisfying the whims of men.
An attempt is made in this book to analyse the causes and impact of crimes like dowry torture and sexual violence against women in the State of Orissa. Impact of education and economic, effectiveness of redressal mechanism and family as well as societal response to such atrocities have been dealth with and on the basis of findings some measures have been suggested for preventing and cntrolling violence against women.
About Author :
Dr. (Mrs.) Bedabati Mohanty has worked in different government colleges of Orissa and at Utkal University as Professor of Economics. After retirement from service in 2000, she is actively involved in different Research Projects and is associated with several NGOs. Currently she is working in a Project on tribla women in Orissa supported by I.C.S.S.R.She has a number of articles published in different journals and has authored the book 'Economics of Small Scale Industries' and edited the books 'Development of Women: Present Status and Future Strategy' and 'Employment Perspective in Rural India'.
