Nagpurkar is depicted as a wealthy Brahmin man who is often mistaken as someone who is a Muslim, and admires Gandhi. He likes music and drinking, but does not drink when Gandhi fasts.

Characters such as Paropakari Gampu, Namu Parit, and Narayan, capture the mundaneness of everyday life. For instance, Namu Parit is a humble washer man. About Purushottam Laxman Deshpande

Purushottam Laxman Deshpande was a celebrated Marathi humorist, writer, music composer, producer, director, and philanthropist.

He had accomplished numerous literary achievements during his lifetime. Some of his works are Asa Mi Asami, Marathi Wangmayacha Galeev Itihas, Chitramay Swagat, Pudhari Pahije and Ek Shunya Mee.

Deshpande completed his college education at Fergusson College in Pune, and at Sangli’s Willingdon College. Before taking up writing full time, he taught at both, the high school and college levels. Deshpande also worked for Doordarshan. He gained widespread fame for his work as both, a humorist and author. Deshpande received recognition at both the state and national levels. He was awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the PunyaBhushan. Deshpande was married to Sunita Thakur, who was also a writer. Deshpande passed away in June 2000, due to Parkinson’s disease.
