Tell it Like it is Review by B. CobraAs I read this book I had tremendous compassion and admiration for Ms. Calicchia.
She truly cares about teaching children. Her dedication and integrity are obvious as she recounts the countless hours of finding and making supplementary materials, such as sight word cards and clip art to broaden her students' vocabulary. She presses on despite a diifuclt environment of mice, no heat, lack of parental cooperation, poor student preparation, and poor attendance. Her belief that parents need to work at being parents and must partner with teachers as a vital part of their child's development is totally correct.
I was fortunate to meet the author in person. She is very inspiring and quite upbeat about her profession. She is not at all bitter. Her book is an honest account of the reality of too many children in today's world.
