WD 1 TB Laptop Internal Hard Drive (WD10JPVT)

I upgraded my Macbook Pro with this hard disk myself and installed the OS again transfered all my data no problems at all. It has been about 2 months now and its working perfectly.

I highly recommend this product, its great quality and at a reasonable price.
Flipkart as always did a great job packing the delicate hardware and delivering it on time.

I replaced my aging WD 320GB Scorpio Blue with this one and the speed difference is day and night.

320GB Scorpio Blue:
Avg. Sequential Read: 44 MB/s
Avg. Sequential Write: 25 MB/s
Access Time: 19.5ms

1TB Scorpio Blue:
Max. Sequential Read: 119 MB/s
Avg. Sequential Read: 88 MB/s
Max. Sequential Write: 110 MB/s
Avg. Sequential Write: 85 MB/s
Acess Time: 18.9ms

The access time hasn't improved much because its still a 5400rpm drive, so don't expect any appreciable improvement in application load times. But the boost in sequential read and write is huge thanks to the increased platter density. Infact the results are slightly better than my 7200rpm Seagate Barracuda desktop hard drive. Since the new HDD is only 5% full now, I am able to enjoy the maximum speeds at the outer tracks.

Just a word of caution though, since this is one of the new Advanced 4K Format drives, you need to make sure your laptop's BIOS and SATA controller can handle this format. I installed it in my 5 year old HP laptop and wasted a whole day trying to install Windows 7 but failed. I tried all sorts of SATA drivers but to no avail. I gave up after 12 long-winded attempts and decided to see if my new desktop could handle it. The installation was successful this time. I then took the drive out and installed it into the laptop. This was the only way I could use it in my laptop.

I ordered this on 11Feb, 2013 and got it on 15th Feb afternoon, one thing to be mentioned that I had ordered this from Kolkata and it was shipped from Mumbai, so the taken time is completely justified. Apart from that flipcart kept me posted about the shipment. Tracker system is very nice.

Now about the product

Its a decent big hard drive for laptop. Though its 5400rpm HD, benchmark is better than other 5400rpm and SATA 3gbps HD out there. As its 5400rpm don't expect 7200rpm's performance. And there are lots of rumor going on about Advanced Format HD.
Well I am using it on a Compaq CQ40 Laptop(purchased on 2008) and it was one of the basic laptop out there on that time, so you can expect the HD working on every system purchased within last 5 years. One bit of caution though, your hardware can support it but if you are planning to install a legacy OS on it I mean Windows XP don't expect it to work unless you install a new SATA driver for your hardware and even Windows 7 without any service pack will not work. And if you are planning to install OS Windows & sp1 or above then It will work. I am using Windows 8 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

And one thing about Advanced Format Drive--->

As the companies are started to migrating to Advanced Format Drive(AF) recently, all the new AF capable drives are backward compatible, means It should work on any drive that supports previous version (512). What will it do is emulate 512byte though the actual physical storage is 4k (AF) formatted.

One last thing, after installing this drive my Laptops HD rating is increased by almost 1 point in Windows. previous one was 5.4 and now its 6.3

I bought this hard disk. Excellent service from Flipkart. I received the package in 2 days.

Installed Windows 7 and copied my backup to this disk at a sustained speed of 54 MBps. The hard disk is, no doubt, faster than an average 5400 rpm disk. Infact, it is a bit faster than my 7200 rpm backup disk.

However, the hard disk runs hot in my laptop, about 42C, even when idling.

Go for this one if you need lots of space and are not worried about heating issue.

This hard disk was purchased as a replacement for my hp pavilion 3225tx laptop. Ran the hard disk test and the device was ok. Size is 931 gb. Its working fine. I bought this product after reading many good reviews on other sites.
Flipkart delivered was awesome. The product travelled more than 1400 kms within 60 hours. This is shipped from Mumbai.
I recommend this product for those who want large storage space with reliability.
