WD Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD20EZRX)

Be sure of which drive you buy as there is a huge difference between this drive WD20EARS and the other one WD20EURS.

The WD20EURS are effectively the standard WD20EARS drives with TLER set to 0 - ie the controller will give up trying to correct an error instantly, unlike a normal drive that will keep trying for many seconds before it gives up.

When recording video or TV you want an WD20EURS that will just record whatever you throw at it, and keep going even if it misses a byte or two. An error in a couple of bytes just causes a small corruption in the video.

However if you store important files, a single byte error could corrupt everything. In that case, but this drive, WD20EARS.

By the way, this drive runs way more cooler than the Seagates if you are considering using it in a tight enclosed cabinet with less Airflow.

this is the one of the best hard disk from wd.
i bought many pieces till last month,
never expected this 150% price boost in storage sector.
but WD WD20EARX is still tempting comparing other dumb hard disks.

I placed the order for this drive on 11 June 2012 @ Rs 6696/-and received the HDD on 12th June 2012.FLIPKART ROCKS!!!. NONE OF THE VENDORS AT SP ROAD IN BANGALORE WERE READY TO SELL AT THAT RATE!!. The primary reason why i purchased this drive was because of the 2 TB size and the minor (Rs1300) price difference between 1TB and 2 TB Drives.
BUT THERE IS SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING THIS DRIVE.
THIS PARTICULAR DRIVE HAS SOMETHING CALLED "Advanced Format (AF) Technology". Those who are not so familiar with this one will have problems with installing it as extended partition for your Already existing Primary HDD.You have to download and install software from WD's Site and prepare your System for formatting this new HDD for using along with your present System.The documentation for the same is not that good.

At first, i didn't take care of this aspect and i found that the transfer speeds are too low (Even Teraacopy couldn't help!!!). I checked the site and found that "Advanced Format (AF) technology" had to be used so that the HDD works with its full throughput.Luckily for me, i hadn't transferred much data before i found this out.

I AM FULLY SATISFIED WITH THIS DRIVE'S PERFORMANCE.
IF YOU WANT A LOT OF STORAGE SPACE FOR APPLICATION SOFTWARES, GAMING IMAGE FILES, STUDY MATERIALS, MP3s, MUSIC VIDEOS, MOVIES ETC(THE LIST GOES ON) .....SIMPLY GO AHEAD AND BUY THIS ONE.

After doing quite a bit of search for a cheap yet performing 2TB HDD, finally got my hands on this.

Was confused between Seagate and WD Green Caviar, but former's tranfer rates are way lesser than later and fixed 5900rpm.

I was copying 162GB of files to the HDD for the first time, and i was getting 82-100 MB/s write speeds which i think is awesome.

so 5/5 for the product... \m/

The best cost effective storage solution is not worth being your primary hard drive. Its super silent, super cool while working but data transfer rates are just hovering near 40MB/s. With 64MB cache and WD name, I expected better speed. But, theres nothing to beat the value for money this product offers. Recommended, but do not expect the performance of caviar black series from this. Awesome value for money, super quiet operation and low power consumption.
