They had themselves a nasty little war in the Congo. Atrocities on both sides. When the military dictatorship was overthrown, Obligate, a philanthropic multi-national paid off the debts and assumed control of the country.

Fourteen months later, Nicholas Hyde, a volunteer working for a humanitarian charity, is asked to help investigate a fresh massacre: a small village, its inhabitants torn to pieces. Ambushed by pale, ape-like creatures that are fierce, unnaturally quick and strong, only Nick and a government observer survive to tell the tale.

But no one wants to listen. Obligate has its own version of events. Shell-shocked and angry, nick refuses to co-operate. And that's when the people around him start to die.

Determined to seek the truth, Nick journeys into the heart of darkness of 21st century Africa: the dead Zone. There, he will discover a reality almost too horrifying to contemplate.
