Afrika is more than just a continent to this protagonistits her name. Its her birthright. Its the way that the outsiders see her when they look at her. Shes not black, but shes not white either. She encompasses everything, and as such, she is excluded from everything. To the norm, Afrika blocks the flow of the natural. She stands in the way of their idea of the other. She is her own subgroup. As her search for acceptance in life takes her down the unbeaten path, she realizes that what she needs is to not assimilate but to stand out.
