its a great book for budding managers and entrepreneurs. Great real life examples from harsha's vast cricketing knowledge. However dont buy this book if you are expecting cricketainment (cricket entertainment)....could get repetitive. chapters are too long and sometimes could be very boring. Also sometime all of these self-help books tend to convey the same message, so if at any point of your life you've bought something about this genre earlier....skip it. !!!!!
As someone has rightly pointed out, chapters tend to get boring after a stage. Nothing special in comparison with other such books or those books which fall into similar genre. I had already tweeted to him saying that I bought the book because we like the person and have not read yet. But I have completed it now and found it okay (slightly boring).
I really do not know how the book would help in really winning anything. May be the workshops conducted on similar thing might turn out to be highly successful but definitely not this book. If it was so, then no need to attend workshop of Mr.Bhogle anymore.
Harsha the orator, the commentator as we have seen this man weaving the game of bat and ball into exciting words and anecdotes and phrases and what not..and we all got excited..isn't it. Amazing to see passion turning into a profession - perfect definition by any management guru who will tell you the same - "follow your passion and make it your profession". He and his wife Anita have been conducted workshops on the concept of "the winning way" i.e. the learnings from the field of cricket to the walls of the organization. How the captain is similar to a manager and how manager's team is no less than the captain's team on the field. Both the team leaders and their team have a common mission i.e. to win and always win. Both of them have same challenge i.e. opposition and tough competition. Winning way elucidates the comparison through literature and lots of examples and references.
The insights from the "players' room" are interesting, the strategies used by winning teams are inspiring. The psychology of the winning sportsperson is worth benchmarking. Its a nice blend of planning, strategy and execution personified into a manager and a captain who are two sides of the same coin.
However, writing a book and speaking are two different expertise. You may like to hear obama speak but not read a book by him. You may like madhuri dance, but may not appreciate a book by her on dancing. Yes, the book is quite dry in terms of its flow. It looses stickiness between the paragraphs and becomes repetitive and boring. If you are one of those readers who read the book with a pencil in hand, then you will have a lot to note and highlight.
The introduction by Mukesh Ambani and closure by Rahul Dravin does generate confidence in the subject. I will recommend this book only to those who are looking at pure learning and do not care damn about literature.
Cheers!
Provides insights of leadership traits by deriving analogies from the world of sports. Would have been more interesting if there was more use of examples/ case studies to drive the context
Superb Book by Harsha and Anita Bhogle. Only one thing I would like to say " Only Harsha Can write such a book, Because he has observed and analysed cricket and corporate very closly for past 20 years."
I would highly recommend this book for all the manager's, leaders, Management students and Youngsters and specially for those who aspires to be a manager or who wants to excel in corporate life.
This is not a novel or something, Rather it is a collection of best moments which Harsha has gone through in his entire career. I was highly impressed the way he linked the Sports and Corporate scenarios. Hats off to Harsha & anita and THANKS A lot for writing such a masterpiece.
I would also like to appreciate Flipkart for making such a wonderful book available at reduced price and within very shot duration.
