  • Description

Suchita Malik gives you this incredible story of five strong willed and independent women who, even under difficult circumstances where life takes a harsh turn, they are not ready to just step down and accept defeat. The main protagonist of the novel, Kaushalya, is the source of inspiration for the young women who wish to follow her footsteps.

    Summary of the Book

This is a story of Kaushalya who is a lot like the women of today. She likes to live life by her own terms, and questions the customs and traditions that have been followed by her community from time immemorial. Also, she is the sole heiress of a very rich family. However, she has seen and experienced her share of lows in life. Kaushalya married into a middle class family which is not conventional for someone of a higher social status. Eventually, she is widowed and left with a child. It doesn't stop there. She goes on to marry her Devar, i.e., brother in law.
The reason she is an idol for the women of the younger generations is that she experienced all of this during the tragic events that took place in Punjab at the time of the Partition; a time when it was unusual for a woman to stand up for herself.

    About the Author

Suchita Malik graduated from the University of Delhi and got her PhD from the Punjab University. She is now working as a Associate Professor at the Government College for men in Chandigarh. She has written several feature articles and travelogues. Other books written by her are Indian Memsahib and Memsahib Chronicles.

    Not at all good

This story does not even hold you to finish the book. Such a boring book. don't buy even if you get best of the best deal.

I read good opinion on flip-kart about this book and purchased trusting flip-kart.
Now I am thinking even flip kart is selling bad product by writing good about it.

    Waste of time

I bought this book from a local book-store and I was optimistic at first due to the present scenario of "repression" of Bharatiya Naris. I dared to think that reading about a triumphant Nari would somehow soothe my mind leave alone giving me a solution to some of the Naris I know who live in despicable circumstances of varying degrees but alas! I wasted my precious time and compromised on my already packed schedule. There is no solution in this book, it's all about "my way or the highway"! I ...

Terrible Book! Do Not Waste Your Time!

Nothing ever happens in the book. People die. And life goes on. Every 3rd line the author reiterates that Kaushalya is a "woman of substance!" Uffff! We get it! You've said so in the titie!

I was waiting for some drama with the partition. But this woman travels from Lahore to Dhanbad without a scratch on her! It's super stupid Sooraj Barjatiya stuff! Very badly written! Do not waste your money or time! Believe me!

Utter trash camouflaging as "intellectual" content! Total rubbish!
