The World is Flat : The Globalized World in the Twenty-first Century (Paperback) Price: Rs.390

The beginning of the twenty-first century will be remembered, Friedman argues, not for military conflicts or political events, but for a whole new age of globalisation a 'flattening' of the world. The explosion of advanced technologies now means that suddenly knowledge pools and resources have connected all over the planet, levelling the playing field as never before, so that each of us is potentially an equal and competitor of the other. The rules of the game have changed forever but does this 'death of distance', which requires us all to run faster in order to stay in the same place, mean the world has got too small and too flat too fast for us to adjust? Friedman brilliantly demystifies the exciting, often bewildering, global scene unfolding before our eyes, one which we sense but barely yet understand. The World is Flat is the most timely and essential update on globalisation, its successes and its discontents, powerfully illuminated by a world-class writer.

The World is Flat

The book is just OK. Many of the things stated in the book are already known by the people but it still makes a good read nevertheless though I feel its a bit expensive.

Read only if you were living in a cave for last 20 years

I purchased this book only because of all the hype that it has created and discovered that it was no where worth it.

The author describes how with the advent of internet the world has become interconnected, how outsourcing is good for US (as it means that they can spend time on improving their skills while leaving menial work for Indians and Chinese) etc. In between, he keeps dropping names of rich guys here and there, which becomes irritating after a while.

If a guy pretending to discuss the future of world in 21st century world spends more time on advent of internet browser than on global warming, then there is something wrong with him! If you missed out on how internet suddenly crept into our life during the last decade of 20th century - because you were not born then or were living in a cave - then probably you will find something to read here. Otherwise it's a waste of time and money.

A skeleton blueprint to the concept of the world.

'The World is Flat' is a product of an intellect whose avid sense of understanding of the world comes from deep insight and experiences. The book throws light on minor and major factors, events and developments that is fast altering the social, economic and political; nature of the nations around the world. Some readers will find the contents informative, it is revealing no doubt, while some will perhaps go beyond and beget a clearer picture of how the world have come about to be what it is today, from thence and whence; and from here to what. This book will also serve as a good starter material for the beginners in international relations and international politics discipline. The book deals on subject of reality therefore fiction as well as fairy tale readers might not as well be enticed.

The World Is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman

The book presents an amazing and exciting view of the twenty-first century globalized world. The author has impressively illustrated the successes and fear alike. It is an outcome of deep and thorough research. The derivation of all information from the most primary sources, from interviews with the most concerned persons, from conversation with authority intellectual figures and from workers directly involved in supply-chain makes the book highly authentic and interesting.
The reference of two elements-one the most disempowered rural populace and the other Islamist terror organizations-still living in unflat world is apparently a new idea mirroring author's imagination, pedagogy and cause-effect correlation. It is a brilliant piece,a treasure of information-worth reading.

Excellent book--very informative and analytic

It is an extremely informative book, extremely well researched and it has brought out the mechanism of flattening of the world, its merits and demerits. India and China play great role in flattening of the world. Author has hope that India would emerge as a great power due to increasing population of educated youths. He has cautioned extremist, specially Muslims to have more sense and understand Quaran in real sense which never teaches violence and terrorism.
