They are Back :)

Yeh Khulla Aasman is a special film because it marks the debut of an able film maker Gitanjali Sinha, and also marks the comeback of a genius musical pair, Anand - Milind.

In today's times where a Sheila, Munni and Chameli are a must have in your film, Gitanjali focuses on a purely situational soundtrack. The film looks at relationships and also delivers a message. Coming to the music, the guys who gave us QSQT, Dil, Beta, Sangeet, Suhaag and a whole brigade of Govinda chartbusters are roped in to compose for this insightful project.

While Anand-Milind have had their share of out and out commercial chartbusters, they have chosen to present their unsurpassed side to us in their comeback album. The album is one that can be easily classified as pure and comforting music, in which the singers have enunciated every word and the lyricist, Ravi Chopra, has worded sentiments rather than rhyming words.

Suresh Wadkar's Ari Ari is a beautiful melody that has an old world appeal to it. Suresh Wadkar is joined by an un-credited singer towards the end and this song is truly haunting. Today, music has evolved and that is NOT A BAD THING. We have to move with time; it is the need of the hour. And Anand-MIlind comprehend that better than all of us. That's why although this lullaby is not sung by a teenage new-generation singer, the arrangements are in sync with today and the melody is fresh. And of course Suresh Wadkar is a legend who knows how to sing a song that's particularly designed for him. Anand-Milind have always maintained that melody always wins. And Ari Ari is a mesmerizing frontrunner in this genre.

Har Gadi by Kunal Ganjawala is what I have been waiting for. It is not just a song, it is a stimulation. The words boost your spirit, the melody is strong and Kunal's vocals are pertinent for this implausible number. This is going to be one of those songs, which I will listen to, for a very long time. Anand-Milind have used Kunal in a few songs lately and this one is undeniably their best. I can't stop listening to it and I know you won't either!

The only romantic song on this album has Gayatri Ganjawala and Soham's soothing vocals accompanied by present-day arrangements. The song, Kya Tum Khushi Ho, is easy on the ears and proves my point yet again that dissimilar to what a lot of people say, change is important and Anand-Milind have incorporated today's sound and singers with their trademark style and melody, resulting in a good, hummable song.

The start of Ur Ur is a clear hint that this song has a strong folkish influence. The song is situational and actor Raghubir Yadav sings the song with buoyancy. The lyrics are worth mentioning. Amey Daatey, of Indian Idol fame, makes an impression with his minute-and-a-half account of this song.

I honestly don't care that this film doesn't have a huge star cast and isn't a big 40-50 cr budget film. For me, Anand-Milind (as always) have come up with a beautiful bouquet of melodies. If you are looking for soothing tunes, then Yeh Khulla Aasmaan has 4 of them! :) And just for Kunal's ditty alone, this album earns 4 huge stars ....

A breath of fresh air...

tired of bearing with the mediocre and neurotic dhin-chaks in the name of music in hindi films of today, this album comes like a breath of fresh air to its listeners. the album deserves a pat on the back not only for its conceptualization but also its serene and beautiful execution and rendition. the impact it creates on the mind and senses has the potential to take you back in a time and space when life wasnt as nerve-wrecking, and music had the power to bring you back to your very being and core. the entire album is laudable, but the song by kunal ganjawala is especially deserving of an o... Nostalgia!

Thank You Anand-Milind, Ravi Chopra and everybody else involved with this album for taking me back to a time when Melody was indeed the king, and the lyrics of a song were works of poets and not mere rhymsters.

Welcome back! We missed you a lot

I could not get a better title than this one for this album. This album marks a comeback for Anand-Milind in bollywood and what a way to comeback. I have not heard such music in past many years. The lyrics are written by Ravi Chopra. He has done a remarkable job in writing the lyrics.

There are total 6 tracks in this album. I cannot rate anyone over the other. If I have to give ratings to any one of them above the others, I would better not rate anyone then.

There are total 6 tracks in this album. I cannot rate anyone over the other. If I have to give ratings to any one of them above the others, I would better not rate anyone then.

The album starts with Aari Aari Aari Pawan, beautifully sung by Suresh Wadekar ji. This song should be put in the same league as the classics by Jaidev sahab. Probably this has to be the best song of Suresh Wadekar after Seene Mein Jalan from Gaban. Its a lullaby sung with extreme heart.

2nd and 3rd song of the album are the title songs of the movie. Kunal Ganjawala was right in accepting in a press conference that he has not sung these kind of songs before. The song takes a lot of pain out from you. They talk about the ups and downs of life a midst beautifully rendered piano and violin pieces. Five Star. This is a song that can be put in the same league as those by great Madan Mohan and R. D. Burman.

The 4th song of the album is Kya Tum Wahi Ho, sung by none other than Gayatri Ganjawala and Soham (In dino from Metro fame). To be very honest, I have not heard such a simple romantic number in past 7-8 years. The number is sweet with excellent lyrics. The use of recorder flute in the interlude is intelligent with the pieces adding to the overall theme of romance. "Kya Tum Khushi Ho" will definitely be one of the known numbers of 2012.

The 5th song is sung by none other than Raghubir Yadav himself. Its called "Ur Fur Kar". Being originated from Madhya Pradesh, I found a lot of solace in listening to words like "kanni", "pencha" etc. The song is a folk kinda song with some superb pieces of Harmonium (though done through VSTI plugins) and a fast paced dholak rhythm. Definitely a winner.

The last song of the album is a slow (but happy) version of Uri Fur Fur sung by Amey Date (Indian Idol fame). The song is the shortest in the movie with only close to 2 minutes, yet it still makes an impact on the listener. Thanks to excellent rhythms.

I wanted more from the album, not in terms of quality but in terms of quantity. क्या करें जी नहीं भरता अच्छे गाने सुनते हुए| Thanks a ton for Gitanjali Sinha, Anand-Milind and Ravi Chopra for giving such excellent music to us. I will remember it for years to come.

YKA- The golden duo are back

Finally an album from Anand Milind, the composer duo who have created some of the most lilting melodies in the 80z and 90z are back. And with YKA have created tunes that stike a chord directly in the listeners heart. A rarity amidst all the barrage of albums that claim to create music.

The album starts of with Suresh Wadkar's Aari Aari Aa Pavan. Suresh ji and AM have created magic for long, right from the days I first listened to O rabba from Sangeet. This track is no different Its sheer melody that oozes from Sureshji's voice. Another singer also does a neat job in this number.(not sure who he is though but). Lovely track, worth any number of rewinds.
The title track by Kunal Ganjawala is simply in the classical mould again. Kunal of late has been regularly flexing his vocal chords for AM, be it the blingual film Murder or Tum Hi Toh Ho. AM have surely managed to extract the very best from Kunal, in a song with senstive lyrics and offering rays of hope.Sometimes I do wonder what kept Anand Milind from working with Kunal for so long :). I do recollect that Poornima had introduced Kunal to AM in the 90's.
Kya Tum Khushi Ho is a favourite with my 3yr old and also others at home. This romantic ballad still shows that AM are perfectly in sync with time and this song can easily fit any of the present day big budget movies. but then I also feel that the director (Geetanjali Sinha) also has played a very important role in offering a platform and an integrated story line for AM to deliver this gem of a number. Also the fact that AM have used the vocals of Gayatri and Soham for this number adds to the dew drop melody of this number

Ur Fur by Raghubir Yaadav is a nice folksy number, situational i would guess in the movie. Raghubir Yadavji has done a good job in using his vocal chords for this number.

And to end this album, Amey Daate makes his presence felt with a short and sweet Zindagi Patang Hai. Amey i recollect was seen in the early days of a musical on Zee,perhaps hosted by Sonu Nigam then.
Perhaps one more factor which further adds to the appeal of this exceptional album is that there are a lot of fresh voices heard through Anand Milind in this album. To summarize very briefly to all melody lovers out there, "Go For It".
