You Are Here
‘The trouble with my life is that it`s like a bra strap when you put your bra on wrong . . .`

At twenty-five, life`s innumerable entanglements are getting to Arshi.

Her blonde American step-mom`s trying too hard (she`s taken to welcoming guests with a traditional aarti). The gorgeous guy who has Arshi all flushed and dreamy doesn`t seem to be trying at all (he`s the Ice Prince who thaws at his own convenience). Her best friend Deeksha`s going to be married in a few months (Arshi`s still in the process of finding the correct labels for the men in her life). And, her otherwise unruffled, cocktail-concocting flatmate Topsy`s getting testier by the day because her conservative family will never approve of the darling guy she`s in love with. What`s more, there`s a cheating ex-boyfriend, a weepy neighbour and a heinous boss who need to be told where to get off.

Her head spinning wildly with the sheer gravity of her life`s quandaries, Arshi realizes what she needs most now (besides a barrelful of alcohol and some serious postcoital cuddling) are just a few epiphanies of the right kind . . .

Saucy, wise and audaciously candid, You Are Here introduces a bold and irresistible new voice.

@Deepa , Your anger drips all over your review :)

I put the book down after reading the first 2 chapters.

But anyways owing to the money I spent on the book, I think I will complete it some day :)

But definitely not recommending this book to anyone.

But of course if you are a fan of her blog, or any other blog of women of such genre, you might as well enjoy the book. Can't even give it a tag of 'chik-lit', I guess.

I got bored of it.

Thanks

The book is an absolute crap; god knows how come she got a publisher.

Review by Srija
Reading this was a criminal waste of time. Curiosity got the better of me and i picked it up at Blossoms last week. The only consolation is that i can return the book for a fair rate and be rid of it as a bad experience.

Coming to think of it her blog is more tied together, articulate when compared to the 'novel'.

Also, i fail to comprehend what 'use of language' people talk about when they say its good in her book. Its very much colloquial, metro-ish with arbit hindi words thrown in.
somehow it comes across like she's tried very hard, seems pretntious, vane even.
Topsy seems nice - the only good thing about the whole damn $%#%.

Read the book - get rid of your inquisition and stay away.
*What a criminal waste of paper this book is
Review by Deepa
I can't believe someone can write such a dumb book and get it published it as well.

The story goes on and on and on rambling endlessly about a stupid, alcoholic ever smoking woman in pursuit boyfriends and it also talks about her brainless friends who are so rich, ready to go skinny dipping and booze all their time away. Oh, btw,she also works as a PR executive with a bitchy fat boss.

I think ,a more appropriate name for this book would be 'I am stuck" or 'This story is goes nowhere'

Is there nothing else to write about in this world or about India or about women other than sex and alcohol and sesationalizing the 'new found liberation' of women?

The publisher could have done one favor to this world and saved the trees cut to make this book.

*You don't want to be here
Review by Abhinav
Utter waste, such a shallow novel with nothing worthwhile to write about.

now i know what happens if a blogger decides to write a novel.

Don't read it even if you have loads to time to kill and get this one for free.

This book needs to move beyond the clearly attention seeking yet completely mediocre life of the author. What on earth was Penguin thinking? Well connected parents should not mean that trash like this transcends from a blog to a book.

It is such a completely banal stereotype of the self prounounced 'hip' Indian woman who smokes all the time. What a waste of money
*Enjoyable
Review by Tushar
Though I haven%u2019t finished the book as yet but I am done with a substantial portion of it. All I have to say is that it%u2019s an enjoyable read. People, lets not go into stereotypes, this woman is not one. Furthermore, why must our so called 'open minded' public pass judgment about a girl who likes to smoke or drink or %u2013gasp%u2014FLIRT%u2014further gasping. Do men not do the same- I am a guy and I do. And people you guys are talking about values- seriously- get real- do you want the character to walk around in a bloody sari all the while and touch her the feet of Every elder, every time she sees one %u2013 how is that for stereotypical. I for one like this book n think it%u2019s a great read, especially for people who are a little messed up.

There's nothing antithetical between blogging and publishing. The former was believed to end the mediation of the latter in the making or breaking of writers.
