  • Description

Acclaimed as one of the most exciting books in the history of American letters, this modern epic became an instant bestseller upon publication in 1974, transforming a generation and continuing to inspire millions. This 25th Anniversary edition features a new introduction by the author; important typographical changes; and a Reader's Guide that includes discussion topics, an interview with the author, letters and documents detailing how this extraordinary book came to be. A narration of a summer motorcycle trip undertaken by a father and his son, the book becomes a personal and philosophical odyssey into fundamental questions of how to live. The narrator's relationship with his son leads to a powerful self-reckoning; the craft of motorcycle maintenance leads to an austerely beautiful process for reconciling science, religion, and humanism. Resonant with the confusions of existence, ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE is a touching and transcendent book of life.

    A refreshing philosophical discussion

First this book deals neither with Zen nor with Motorcycle maintenance.
I am a frequent traveller and those have seen me reading this book have asked me about the motorcycle maintenance part for which I had to tell them that this book is more of a philosophical book rather than anything else. At best a travelogue but nothing more than that for those who are looking for some action.
One thing about it propels creative thinking and helps you to explore and dig deep into the world of philiosophy...

    This book definitely has QUALITY!!!!

One of the best books i've come across in a long time..It was really an eye opener for me.The
topics in the book are nothing new but presented with an altogether different viewpoint. The book deals with quality in general but goes very deep in explaining its hidden power. It is not recommended for people who want to take up some philosophy book for leisure. It propels you to think out of the box.Even the first person narrative is pretty smart.I would also recommend the sequel to this book named...
