Directed by Steve McQueen and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti and Brad Pitt, 12 Years a Slave is a historical drama film that tells the real-life story of Solomon Northup. A well-to-do African-American, Solomon, a citizen of New York, is abducted and forced to work on a plantation in New Orleans. Put into the ruthless slavery trade due to unpredictable and vicious circumstances, Solomon must now find a way to attain liberation so he can start living life once again, in contrast to barely surviving. Having won 3 Academy Awards and a Golden Globe as well, this movie is truly enlightening and captivating.
