Description

George Orwell’s 1984 is the definitive dystopian novel, an account of a world where a totalitarian regime takes over and seizes away every meaning of the word freedom.

Summary of the Book

In an alternate timeline, it is 1984. The world governments have collapsed, coalescing into a few totalitarian regimes. What was one the United States has come under the vigilance of a perverse, omnipresent authority known only as Big Brother. Big Brother watches everyone, his eye constantly examines the events and shapes the past to his clandestine needs. No one has any sort of freedom. There is no freedom in life, no freedom in death and definitely no freedom in love. Even reproduction becomes a government-authorized act, and love must be approved and even initiated by Big Brother’s council. In this dystopian timeline, Winston Smith is a man who works in the Records Department of the Ministry of Truth. He is tasked with rewriting history so that the records match the constantly changing party line and the machinations of Big Brother. He constantly hopes to break away from Big Brother’s gaze, and when he meets a young woman named Julia who has the same idea as he does, he begins to find a means of challenging Big Brother’s authority.

About George Orwell

Eric Arthur Blair, better known as George Orwell, was an English writer born in Burma. He is best remembered for his essays, his diaries, his novels, including Animal Farm and Down and Out in Paris and London.

Orwell is considered to be a pioneering novelist and thinker, responsible for the rise of the dystopian literature genre. It is, therefore, no small achievement that the word Orwellian has become a synonym for totalitarian regimes and their ideals.

WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

Note: Review for the edition: ISBN-13 9788129116116 from Rupa Publications (quite a decent edition)

Set in the year 1984 (although written in 1948), this is George Orwell's best known work till date, and has rightly been called the most influential novel ever written.

In a totalitarian society where the dwellers of Oceania are under the constant scrutiny of the Party (the infallible Govt), this compelling tale makes you cringe and shudder alternately.
Freedom of thought is a thing of the pa...

Wonderful read

An enlightening novel written in 1948 by George Orwell and telling a captivating tale on the perils of authoritarian governments. It also makes us think if we are unknowingly supporting any such Party, group or governments which would result in far reaching disastrous consequences.

Rupa publication has brought this book in best shape at great price. Pages are nice and print is error free and great to read. Highly recommended.

Terrific

writing review before reading the book. this review is only for book lovers. I think that every book has something to offer, it might be small or large, but it also depends upon the reader of the book to enhance the experience with the book by adding or associating their own beliefs and thoughts.
don't read blindly, after completing few pages of any book think for a while that whether it suits you or it is not of your type. better to develop a habit of reading a para & writing four. it will ...

Worth every penny

Awesome book 😃😃😃😃 this book had such a powerful meaning and it took me on an emotional ride, a must read for everybody. Most possibly the best political fiction book I have ever read!
The novel creates a world so plausible, so complete that to read it is to experience another world

Anyone embarking on a political thriller should look to 1984 – to see how it's done.

If Isaac Asimov was responsible for giving us the three laws of robotics then this book gives the 3 rules to a dystopian society. The book is a bit heavy specially in the later parts but gives you an insight about how governments and organisations would like to you to believe. There might be a disconnect with some of the descriptions of the scenes with the present times but still packs enough punch to make you wonder if what you know is true or not...

excellent Book! I am not talking about the quwality of book but what written inside it. The book clearly illustrates the current social and political situation around the world even after 73 years of its publication. what would happen if the government becomes totalitarian. The book is worth reading.

Just okay

this year i have even forgotten the count of how many books the sellers are delivering without a bookmark. I think flipkart should take cognizance of such acts and make sure that the sellers add it. Coming to the book it's decent for the price, the page quality isn't great but that's what you get with most of them, the font size is good , binding isn't very promising but will last.
