Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Sheikh is an experienced, visionary, and socially committed scientific officer working as a Senior Hydrogeologist at GSDA (Groundwater Surveys and Development Agency), Solapur. For the past 14 years, he has been actively working in the fields of groundwater science, water balance planning, water conservation, and rural water management, making significant contributions to Solapur district. His work is not limited to technical boundaries but is deeply connected with farmers, villagers, and local administration. He has played an effective leadership role in important national initiatives such as Atal Bhujal Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission, with a strong focus on increasing water literacy and community participation.
A unique aspect of his work is his belief that “science must reach society in a simple and emotional language.” With this vision, he has beautifully blended science and literature, making innovative efforts to explain groundwater science through poetry—an approach that inspires awareness, sensitivity, and action. His primary objective is to make groundwater science accessible to common people, create awareness about water conservation, encourage public participation for sustainable water management, and integrate scientific knowledge with local experiences.
Dr. Farzana Birajdar is working as an Assistant Hydrogeologist at GSDA, Solapur. She is a skilled researcher, an accomplished educator, and a dedicated geoscientist. She has conducted in-depth research on Himalayan glaciers, contributing significantly to the long-term sustainability of water resources. Her studies cover global issues such as climate change, glacier melting, and their impacts on water resources. She has also served as an Assistant Professor at Solapur University and Walchand College, Solapur, where she effectively taught geology.
The key aspects of her work include glaciology and water resource research, effective teaching, integration of research and field experience, and developing a scientific approach for sustainable water resource management.
The combination of Dr. Sheikh’s experienced leadership and Dr. Birajdar’s research-oriented perspective is clearly reflected in their collaborative work style. Their efforts connect administration, science, and society, contributing to building a strong foundation for a “water revolution.” Their vision is clear—groundwater conservation is not just a responsibility, but it should become a way of life for everyone.
