This is the Marathi version of Devdutt Pattanaik’s 99 Thoughts on Ganesha, titled 99 Ganesh Chintan.

    Summary of the Book

99 Thoughts on Ganesha contains stories, symbols and rituals of India’s beloved elephant-headed Hindu deity. Known as Ganapati, Gajanana, Pillayar or Vinayaka and several other names, he is believed to be the remover of obstacles and is worshipped before beginning any auspicious ceremony. This book answers every possible question that contemporary readers might have about Lord Ganesha. Based on ancient scriptures, mythology, Vedic and tantric teachings, and even temple folklore, this book offers comprehensive details about Ganesha. It narrates stories and explains the reasons behind his alternate names. The section titled Representations covers the thirty-two forms of the Lord, including Maha Ganapati, Shakti Ganapati, Ucchista Ganapati, and Lakshmi Ganapati. Pattanaik also narrates how the God ended up with the head of an elephant.

    Good quality product

All books of Devdutt Pattanaik are on my wishlist. I consider myself lucky when I won a copy of "99 Thoughts on Ganesha" in Giveaway. A short review of the book would be

"You can read it for facts. You can read it for understanding. You can read it for symbolism."

As expected from Devdutt's book, "99 Thoughts on Ganesha" is the collection of short stories or narration about Ganesha. Devdutt has divided each narration into different sections mainly like stories, symbolism, Ganesha's signifi...

Good one but becomes monotonous after a while

Having read "The 7 secrets of Vishnu and Shiva", this book doesn't raise that level of interests. It could be detailed in a better fashion making it more interesting.

But as usual devdutt has definitely travelled the depth as with the other gods and brought out many secrets that we didnt know earlier.

I was expecting this to be much more interesting that other books. But nevertheless i would vote for devdutt for making an attempt to simplify things keeping the depth intact.

    Just 50 Thoughts

It is kind of interesting to start, but after 10 thoughts, it gets a bit boring, ideas repeat. Also, thoughts are just thoughts, I expected more of folklores, stories. this book is collection of sentences, it could have been better written because the topic is interesting. Anyway, it is informative and one time read (atleast upto first 50 thoughts). Not worth 100 bucks though.

    Lack of Research

Devdutt Pattanaik may be the best seller, but most of his books are absolute crap. At least he should do some justice to ancient Indian tradition.

This guy from the Ad Industry is good at marketing and selling his stuff, but his lack of research clearly reflects in all his writings. People who write on multiple subjects hire a ghostwriter and then Sell their stuff.
