avarana

I have read Marathi transkation of the book. The study Dr. Bhyrappa has done tries to make the novel 'avarana free'. As narrated by Dr. Bhyrappa in his writeup before starting the novel (mentioned as 'pravesh' in the Marathi translation by Uma Kulkarni)"Being free from history is as mature as getting something from history".[Marathi version-Itihasakadun milavanyaitakach, tyachyakadun sodavun ghena de paripakwatech dyotak aahe]. That speaks a lot. I am overhelmed by the study and genius of th...

Only historical truth can help in reconciliation

There are many historical facts that are intentionally suppressed and distorted in our history textbooks. Chief among them are the atrocities committed by the Muslim rulers of India during the Mughal rule (with the exception of Akbar) - systematic destruction of Hindu temples (around 30,000 of them in India), destruction of universities and Hindu schools of thought, high taxes and pilgrimage tax for the Hindus, renaming of several Indian towns and cities by Muslim names etc. The intention of ...

A Gripping and Disturbing ride back in time

"Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it" is what prompted me to read AAVARANA. Fantastic experience reading it. Every time I sat to read I was jolted and transported back in time, gripping and disturbing ride it was. HISTORY is bloodier than any fiction and lies perpetrated on us is just disgusting. Switching between fiction & history using "play within play" technique this novel deals with the Mughal history particularly Aurangazeb and gives a deep insight into realities of hi...

Good research of Indian history

absolutely brilliant. A must read book..The perception is thought provoking. It has characters which reveals these historical facts- Journey of whole community/country over a period of time. It reveals a whole journey of India under rule of outsides, their sufferings, changes to lifestyle, culture, administration of natives.

Good research of Indian history. Thanks for bringing about the facts. This was the real history and what the schools taught us was all a lie.

A must read Book

Amazingly written book on how history and how it is (mis)taught in our schools and so on and so forth. One would be just blown away by reading just 2 pages of Preface (Pravesha). I think its difficult for an average man to describe how good this book is, considering the amount of work author has put in it. Hats off!
