    Description

A revealing title into the inner politics of the Congress Party, The Accidental Prime Minister deals with Manmohan Singh and his conflicts with the president of the Congress Party.

    Summary of the Book

The life of the 13th Prime Minister of India is fraught with constant conflict from both the opposing party and his own party. In this book by his former spokesperson, the author puts forth the argument that Mr. Manmohan Singh is in a constant battle for power, as the principal portion of it rests with the Congress Party President, Sonia Gandhi. Portraying an empathic image of the Prime Minister, Baru's book interprets the relationship between the two juggernauts of the Congress party as a tug of war, and portrays Mrs. Gandhi as the constant victor. Revealing several controversial details about the Congress Party, this book is sure to catch the eyes of readers and make them ask questions it tries to answer.

A must read for those whu want to know raise and downfall of PMO and Dr. MM Singh

Few days ago, I was reading news paper and find a cartoon there, that was the time when Academy Awards were announced and in that cartoon it was mentioned that our three big politician were floating in the air (representing the success of the Oscar wining movie "gravity) and one person on the ground showing similarity with our PM was appearing very happy with a trophy in his hand and it was mentioned 10 years a slave (representing the 10 years tenure of Dr. Singh as PM in NDA1 and NDA2). On ...

    A not-so-accidental biography

The book despite not being a masterpiece does manage to keep you captivated for sometime. However, after the initial curiosity (much due to the hype created by media as well as the opposition) dies down, one wonders if the book really deserved this kind of publicity. First, most of the incidents described in the book were already in the public domain though may not be in such finer details. Second, the book on the one hand does successfully establishes Dr. Singh as not just an accidental PM b...

    Great Effort Mr. Baru

Well, you would be, both, surprised and, not-surprised, after you read this. One side you will find a person who has risen from ashes, and achieved something unique and exceptional while striving as a nobody. You will applaud the compassion Mr. Singh has shown till 1991 and the kind of respect he gathered from his peers as associates. This book, very neatly, describes how a person with so high, an integrity and learning, succumbs to an authority, who intellectually, is nothing but miniscule w...

    Leader without leadership skills

This book manages to uncover the Prime Minister in a number of ways. His relationship with the Gandhis apart, for me he came across as a man of paradoxes:

    1. His claim to fame is liberalisation of the Indian economy, but spends his time and energy on big government spending programmes
    2. Known for financial integrity, but feels no remorse in not keeping his word.
    3. Is seen as a liberal and mild, but is a party to threatening CNN IBN and stops them from airing the sting on vote over th...

    Accidental but beneficial Prime Minister

I have read the book by Sanjay Baru but am constrained to say that neither it does justice to main person in the book viz. Dr Manmohan Singh nor it serves any purpose for writer. Rather this is the book which has done more credit to Dr Singh then discrediting him. The more effort is made in the book by the writer to do that, more better placed seems to be Dr Singh. This may be due to the fact that most of frailties about Dr Singh are already in the domain of public knowledge.

    The Accidental Prime Minister.

I believe in the overall context as a Nation, we have let down the Office of the Prime Minister by allowing such details to be published.
We as a nation and as citizens, have inadvertently enabled the world to see our weakness as a country and as a democracy and that we can be trampled upon.
Knowing our political establishment we will paint the town red with the contents of the book.
I hang my head in shame.

The Accidental Prime Minister : The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh

How far we can belive in the contents of the book is a million dollar question. The time of publishing smack of conspiracy theory. At the first place it is unethical on the part of any person to spill beans of back room affairs after demitting the office. The book is full of gossip and serves the purpose it was written for. Vinod Mehta has rightly called it a "New Fiction." In the introduction, Baru talks so much about H Y Sharada Prasad. He calls Sharada his mentor, who was the press secreta...
