About Channapatna Art:
These are wooden toys made specifically in the town of Channapatna, Karnataka. While they look simple, there are specific quality standards that are stringently adhered to. The WTO has granted GI status to chanapatna toys, to protect this traditional art form. Also, only wood from ivory-tree and a few other trees can be used. Vegetable dyes are used for colouring and lacquering of the wood.
Channapatna toys are certified to be safe for children since they use no synthetic products. The art form is supported by the Dutch Government and the State Government of Karnataka.
