Advanced Structural Analysis (English, Paperback, Menon Devdas)
An extension of the subject matter of the basic book on structural analysis by the same author, Devdas Menon, Advanced Structural Analysis is an academic book aimed at providing a thorough understanding of the fundamentals as well as advanced topics in structures, including matrix analysis.
Summary Of The Book
Published by Narosa in 2009, Advanced Structural Analysis by Devdas Menon is spread over seven chapters, some of which are Matrix Analysis of Beams and Grids, Matrix Analysis of Structures with Axial Elements, Matrix Analysis of Plane and Space Frames, and Matrix Concepts and Algebra. In the first few chapters, the book lays down the foundation of the subject matter by touching upon the basics, and further goes on to explain how matrix algebra lays out the perfect framework for its application through mathematics. The book also discusses the application of matrix methods to various skeletal structures including grids, and space trusses or frames.
In the sixth chapter, the various methods applied to plane frames including the reduced stiffness and other methods, in relation with the conventional methods are discussed in detail. In the final chapter, Second Order Response, is one of the topics discussed at length. Conceptual knowledge is tested through the list of review questions that are provided at the end of each chapter. In addition, practical understanding of theory is tested through problems listed at the end of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh chapters.
The table of contents includes topics like Energy methods, Loads, Displacement Methods, Analysis of Statically Determinate Structures, Vector, Transpose of a Matrix, Matrix Inversion, Coordinate Systems, Flexibility Matrix, Fixed End Forces and Equivalent Joint Loads, One Dimensional Axial Structures, Plane Trusses, Analysis of Grids by Stiffness Method, Slope Deflection Method of Analysis, and Effects of Axial Force on Flexural Stiffness.
Advanced Structural Analysis provides an insightful and refreshing perspective into structural analysis, and aims at helping students enhance their learning and intuitive abilities, besides strengthening their fundamentals in this subject. This book aims to prepare them for more advanced topics such as Finite Element Analysis in the future.
