Description
1)Hot Water Treatment Before Sowin: to get better germination seeds must be treated in hot water at 80 oc for 10 minutes. Then seeds should be soaked in normal water over night (12 hours). Seeds should be shade dry before sowing for 1 hour. 2)Hedge lucerne is a perennial (7 harvest/year) green fodder crop; it comes up to 3-3.5 years. It's having rich in protein (20-22 %) and good green fodder to goat, cow, sheep, rabbit & poultry also increase the weight gain and improves productivity of milk yield. 3)It is grow throughout the year under irrigation and during June - October as a rainfed crop. Sow the seeds at 7-8 kg/acre in solid stand on the side of the ridges over the lines where fertilizers are applied at a depth of 2 cm and cover with soil. 4)Irrigate immediately after sowing, life irrigation on the third day and thereafter once in a week. First cut on 70-80 th day after sowing at 50 cm height and subsequent cuts at intervals of 35-40 days at the same height. 5)Number of branches per plant is 15-20. Sowing Method
  • 1)Preparatory cultivation:Plough 2-3 times to obtain a good tilth. Form ridges and furrows of 6 m long and 60 cm apart. Spread 25 tones of FYM/ha before ploughing and incorporate well. 2)Spacing 30 x 15 cm (Sow on both sides of ridges) 3)Broadcasting is also suitable for cultivation

  • 1)After cultivation=First weeding on 25-30 days after sowing. After each harvest a weeding may be given before fertilization 2) Irrigation Once in 7-10 days depending upon soil condition 3) Plant protection Generally not needed. If shoot fly is noticed, spray Endosulphan 35 EC 500 ml/ha or Dimethoate 30 EC 500 ml/ha in 250 litres water. Plant protection sprays may be stopped one month before harvest of green fodder.
