  • Description

The Story of My Experiments With Truth is the autobiography of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the man who was so respected by his peers that he was called Mahatma.

    Summary of the Book

Resistance comes in many forms. It is always in reply to a strong force, one that refuses to withdraw. Naturally, that resistance often takes on the guise of force itself, and violence begets more violence. However, he was a frail man. The British didn’t take him seriously for a while. When they did, it was too late. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born to a middle class family and grew up with all the morals of Hindu life. In his autobiography, he writes about his youth and how he experimented with his morals, treading lines carefully. He writes of his experiences with eating meat and his obsession with sex in his early life. It was his trip to South Africa that awoke him to the troubles of his fellow man. He saw how the British treated the natives in their colonies, and he began to fight against their reign. Back in India, he was a changed man. He wore Indian clothes, hand-spun and woven at home. He lived like an ascetic and spoke with the charisma and authority of a man who was born to lead people. Instead of favouring violence like his contemporaries, he sought to fight against the British Empire through nonviolence and civil disobedience. He was one of the main characters in the Indian Independence Movement, and his legacy remains a part of India to this very day.

    About Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a freedom fighter, former advocate and Indian political figure. He was famous for his advocacy on nonviolence and his general outlook on life.

Born in Porbandar, Gujarat, Gandhi's life was changed with his education and eventual journey to South Africa where he helped the Blacks battle racism. He returned to his motherland to find her weeping under the weight of British Rule and his actions finally engulfed India into the final years of conflict before finally achieving Independence. Gandhi is known as the Father of the Indian Nation.

Here was a greatest rebel of modern times.

Though I had bought this book from a store - I thought a comment here would be appropriate. Despise is a precise word I could associate myself when I heard the name Mahathma Gandhi - this was before I read the book. May be it was my igorance or the contemporary media/people's influence or may be i just thought his ideas were pretty old or may be I was tired of reading his chapters in all languages in school :)

I first read this book sometime ago by chance when I was travelling across few rem...
