Description
Stunning dramatically rich and enthralling - New York Times

An inspector for the physical education department in the Delhi school system, Ram Karan supports his widowed daughter, Anita and eight-year old granddaughter, Asha, by collecting bribes for a Congress party boss. On the eve of Rajiv Gandhis assassination, one reckless act bares the lifetime of violence and sexual shame behind his dingy public career and traps him in a farcical but terrifying, political campaign. An astonishing character study, a portrait of a family and a country-tormented by the past, An Obedient Father recalls Dostoevskys guilt-ridden anti-heroes. Corrosive, funny and frightening, this is a stunning delight.

This exceedingly human work has a flavor all its own - Guardian

Book remains with you for long!

Like 'the Family life' by the same author , this book too is gripping. You are dealing with a despicable man as the main protagonist, and hapless child Anita was, still you start feeling what he or she is feeling, such is the narration. The irony of the title comes forth in later chapters. There are very less characters but those are there are so well etched. Character of Anita, reminds you of Actress Smita patil or Mita Vashisth. I generally don't prefer to read serious books too much, as some...
