Fat Charlie Nancy discovers the truth about his legacy when his estranged father dies suddenly, and he learns that he has a rather unruly brother named Spider. Their father was Anansi, the spider god. Anansi Boys is an urban fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman.

    Summary of the Book

When his father died, Fat Charlie Nancy thought that it was just about time. He didn’t care for the man, he was barely present in his life and Charlie knew nothing about who he was. He thought things would get better now that his father was dead. However, he discovers that he has a brother named Spider at the funeral. He also discovers that their father was Anansi, the spider god. Spider is a god too and he wants to take over Charlie’s life. Charlie realizes that to get rid of his brother, he will need help. He reaches out to four old women, voodoo enchantresses who promise to rid him of Spider once and for all.

It is a delight to read Neil Gaiman- the genius

It is an amazing book containing 'a lot' of short stories and poems. Gaiman has mastered the art of entering the realm of the mind previously unexplored by any reader, and he does it really well. 'How to Talk to Girls at Parties', 'Feeders and Eaters', 'Closing Time', 'Sunbird' and several others in this book are captivating and awkwardly brilliant ! I would recommend this book to every mature reader !
An of course, flipkart delivered it to me within 2 days. Very prompt.

The making of a pop star

This book was at the top of the New York Times best-seller list as soon as it was published in 2005. It was widely reviewed, won many awards (Gaiman turned down a Hugo) and was turned immediately into an audiobook. Now, almost a decade later, this is still a rockingly funny read. It should be, since Gaiman acknowledges Tex Avery, Thorne Smith and P. G. Wodehouse in the foreword.

The fast moving story, with three or so subplots, and the laugh-out-loud humour, keeps you hooked from beginning t...

Must read for Gaiman fans but not the best place to start with Gaiman

This is a must read for Gaiman fans. It presents the excellent wit, familiar blend of mythology and folklore with crisp writing. That being said, if you are looking to start with Gaiman, you'd be better off starting with American Gods or Neverwhere. If you have read either of those two books, you'll feel right at home with this one. If not, consider one of those two before you start this one.

This, like all Gaiman novels, starts and ends with a song. A song of wit, of fantasy and of magnificence.
The only book which contains a character from American gods albeit in a different central role.
The story of fat charlie and spyder and how the brother come to terms with each other's presence and the knowledge that their father is a god of lost ages.
All stories are anansi's. Anansi has taken over all of them. truly.
