Vel with different sizes like 1 feet, half feet, or even smaller than that can be worshipped. Vel can be made of Silver, Brass, Copper, Panchaloha or Karungali(Ebony). Karungali Vel Worship Method : After revceiving Karungali Vel, first wash once with raw milk, then wash it once with pure water, allow it to dry well then wipe it with a clean cloth. At an auspicious time place the Vel in a heap of Vibuthi(Nattu Mattu Thiruneeru/Desi Cow Dung Bhasma) or Raw Rice in a Brass or Copper Pot/Plate in the Pooja Room and insert the Vel in a standing position. Decorate the Karungali Vel with Flowers, Turmeric Powder, Natural Kumkum, and Sandalwood Paste, during daily prayers we can chant Lord Murugan Mantras/ Kanda Sasthi Kavasam/ 108 Murugan Potris and show dhoop, deepa arti, Abhishekam/Naivedyam is not mandatory for Vel Pooja Worship.
