    Description

Annihilation of Caste is an undelivered speech by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, against the untouchability prevalent in India.

    Summary of the Book

Drafted to be delivered on the annual conference as the presidential address for a Hindu reformist group Jat-Pat Todak Mandal, to address the issues of casteism on Hindu society, the speech was considered too radical for the audience and Ambedkar was asked to withdraw the speech. Instead he released his speech in the form of this book which strongly criticizes orthodox Hinduism and the caste system. In it he reveals his views on Hindu leaders of the day and how he believed that their teachings were flawed and how they only hinder the progress of the nation. The later editions of the book added a section in reply to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who believed that only untouchability was to blame and not casteism. Dr. Ambedkar rebukes this vision of the Mahatma and explains that unless casteism disappears as a whole there will be no improvement in the state of affairs.

    About B. R. Ambedkar

Bhimrao Ramji "Babasaheb" Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, politician, economist, historian, philosopher and principal architect of the Constitution of India.

Born into a Mahar household, Dr. Ambedkar was a staunch soldier against the plague of untouchability and casteism in India. He was the first untouchable to graduate from the Elphinstone College, University of Bombay. He later went to Columbia University in New York City to major in Economics, with Sociology, History, Philosophy and Anthropology. He also received his doctorate in Economics shortly after. Dr. Ambedkar converted to Buddhism and spoke widely against untouchability and casteism, forming several assisting sections of the constitution to help background castes in progressing.

Master piece on Destruction/Elimination/Demolition of Caste

It shows an important dialogue between Gandhi and Ambedkar, their perspective on Indian Society.
As one line reads in the book: To understand gandhi you need to understand ambedkar and vice versa.
But after further reading it further you would like to ignore the 1st part of the book written by Ms. Roy and 2nd part starts with this amazing Speech written by Dr.Ambedkar and i have just one word to say "WOW!! WOW!! & WOW!!".You won't find such scholarly work even in contemporary times and he cou...

    A Breach of Peace

It is not very often that you come across a book that shakes you from within. This book is like a mirror which shows the true face of the society we live in. This book establishes that nobody in India understands caste better than Dr. Ambedkar. Having suffered the brunt of untouchability himself, it was easy for him to get carried away, but he remained quite objective in the treatment of this sensitive subject. Arundhati Roy's introduction is an icing on the cake which establishes that Caste ...

    A life changing work

It is often said that literature (fiction/non fiction) can inspire people for change.. French revolution, American war of independence, Russian revolution,Indian freedom struggle etc etc..all of them had been fueled by literature and this work of Dr B R Ambedkar has same potency..it shows that still the caste system is same, people are same and most of the problems like developmental issue, corruption issue, communalism, social tensions etc etc are some way connected with the caste system. We ...

(on a more personal note I've gotta say that this book got me angry.....really angry.....living in India we tend 2 look away in order to insulate ourselves from the widespread misery destitution and discrimination however after reading this book...its hard to keep up those pretenses....)

    Enlightening, a great buy

It's a very good book and the theory is very very interesting.....it's a very unusual book but certainly worth reading. Some people may find the views to be extremely radical but that's the whole point of the book....that the solution is to be nothing less than radical.

The Great Unpublished Speech by Ambedkar !

    - This is book is about the stark realities & wrongdoings committed by this "One of the Great Religion of the World" in the Past times & is Continuing the tradition till date.
    - The peace will be breached for sure when someone starts feeling that, "those who suffered for the wrongdoings not suffer anymore" in the future.
    - Religion is often called as an "asset of a person" but it is good only, till the time it does not creates divisions.
    - The best part i found is the ambedkar`s advocacy fo...

Hitting the nail right on its head

Ambedkar's analysis of what is wrong with the caste system hits the nail bang on its head. Only a bigot can ignore or shove away his analysis. BTW Arundati Roy's rant on MK Gandhi which is also a part of this book can be ignored.

    a thought provoking book

its a good book to read, esp if you would like to know about history of india and how indians were in the past.

Arundathi roy's introduction is very useful to support the present status of various communities(statistics should be verified though). with this, one can know the poverty of backward classes.

Annihilation of Cast; a speech written by BR Ambedkar is beyond words to describe. It brings us close to how ambedkar though about the society and reforms he wished to have to make the soci...
