    Description

Anticipating India: The Best of National Interest is a collection of editorials from the Editor-In-Chief of The Indian Express.

    Summary of the Book

Shekhar Gupta's editorial column in The Indian Express leaves no stone unturned in its search for truth and justice. Over a period of nearly 17 years, the column has touched upon a myriad topics, from the Gujarat riots to the December 2012 gang rape in Delhi which saw the country rise up against rapists everywhere. Gupta favours a variety of tones, always appropriate to the topic, and offers his unbiased views on all of them. Humourous at times and solemn at others, his column began with a barbarous dig at the ambitions of Sitaram Kesri. Direct, riveting and always relevant in its viewpoints, the column has preserved the original essence 17 years on, and still rises up to discuss topics such as the rise of Narendra Modi and the state of affairs under the Congress.

A good political and social history of recent times

The book is a good read, though can become drag in between. It covers so much from the eyes of a journalist very near the political theatre. It is surprising that despite so much being written by Mr. Shekar Gupta the UPA 2 continued in its self and nation destructive ways.

Covering the brief account of Rao days to NDA to UPA, all in all a good read !

    Anticipating India

This book is not only a very interesting read for those interested in Indian political and social trends, but also reveals an amazing, prescient ability of the author to spot big and basic trends in the polity. It also underlines the authors faith in the constitutional arrangement of balance of power and responsibility, as he shows how deviation from this has invariably resulted in big losses for those that do deviate, whether the government of the day or "civil society" members. In hindsight...

    Highly Over-hyped... Expected much more

Just a few pages into the book.....and I start feeling dissapointed.
The purpose of this book is (null) and ......... though the author genuinely penned down his recollections, thoughts and opinions, still they were quite out of tune with reality. The author seems too full of himself and there is definitely a lack of humbleness in his writing. Mind you, I used to enjoy his IE articles but probably those were written from a pure academic point of view.
Anyway, the one thing that I am quite sure...
