Aruna Asaf Ali became a constructive and compassionate social revolutionary after independence campaigning for the removal of poverty and illiteracy. Besides the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding in 1992, she was posthumously honoured with the 'Bharat Ratna', the nation's highest honour for her services to the nation.

Shri G.N.S. Raghavan (b. 1926), a journalist of repute, was closely associated with Aruna Asaf Ali. From 1957 to 1982 he has held important positions in the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Prior to that he worked with Times of India, Thought and Indian Express. Before retiring in 1982 he was the Secretary of Second Press Commission.
