  • Description

Atonement, by Ian McEwan, is a novel about love and war. Childhood, guilt, and forgiveness are some of the other themes of the story.

    Summary of the Book

Briony Tallis sees something happen between her sister, Cecilia, and Robbie Turner unexpectedly. Robbie and Cecilia have crossed a limit that will scar young Briony’s imagination, eventually leading her to commit a felony that she would regret later. What Briony witnesses and thinks of as a crime has dire impact on the lives of all the three during the time. As a consequence, she might have to spend the rest of her life trying to apologize. Atonement was made into an Oscar-winning film starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.

    To Atone...To Validate

Flipkart provided the book within the delivery period in great condition, as usual.
This book is phenomenal. Beautifully written, it delves into the mind of a thirteen year old who wreaks havoc in the grown ups' lives. She is neither woman nor girl, an inbetween, a misfit. Having seen a horrible thing happen to her cousin she imagines, and almost wishes with a feral hope that it is Robbie, her sister's 'attacker'.
This novel has four parts, each part focussing on three principle characters. B...

    Worth the money

    Ian McEwan's - Atonement

    Rating - 4/5

One of McEwan's most famous works, Atonement is about a person's desparate attempt to atone for her sin by staying with a constant, conscious feeling of guilt, which results in a major character change. The gears shift, the gas is kicked, but, life doesn't accelerate.

    But then, is this atonement?
    .
    .
Written in a flowy narrative, the book is utterly readable yet, one has to really wade in through the sea of the first few pages. Once the book comes ou...

A story of remorse and tragedy.

Atonement is a story that will take your breath away.Even though I almost always read thrillers or biographies, this book touched me deeply. The film version, as far as I can gather from the trailer,is more concerned about the fate of two star crossed lovers who are destined never to meet. However, in the book the most tragic figure is that of Briony Tallis who atones throughout her life for the mistakes that she had committed when she was a young girl even though the fate of her sister and her...

    Atonement by Ian Mcewan

Very rarely you read a novel these days where full justice has been made on the engilsh language and the emotional content of the plot . I believe Ian has done just both of them very successfully. After Ii read the book I saw the movie and the n went back for second reading. The passion , the pathos the uncontrolable consequences in our lives have been depicted by Ian Mcewan is commendable . The tragedy is almost similar to the tragedies in greek dramas .
