Amalaki Emblica Officinalis Also called as Amla or Indian gooseberry. It is one of the component of widely used Triphala. Part used- Fruit, seeds, leaves, root bark, bark. Active compound- It has various active compounds like Phyllembic acid, putranjivan, gallic acid and vitamin C therefore it acts as an antioxidant, antiviral. Characteristics as per Ayurveda- Rasa- madhura, amla, tikta, katu Kashaya Guna- laghu, ruksha Virya- Shita Vipaka- Madhura Indications- Digestive disorders, hyperacidity, gastritis, liver weakness, indigestion, constipation, eye problem as eye wash, asthma, cold and cough, TB, other chronic respiratory diseases, high cholesterol, aphrodisiac, diabetes, anaemia, bleeding disorders, urinary tract disorders. Contraindication- Acute diarrhoea and dysentery.
