Description

What happens when a gung-ho-nothing-can-stop -me 21 year old girl returns back to her country as a weary middle aged woman with a somewhat reluctant family in tow? How does she go about settingghar-grahasti in a place she always thought as home, but which had unknowingly become alien to her? What happens to her picture-perfect idea of a close knit family when she gets close enough to see the frayed edges? After years of following the corporate rat race in her pursuit of the American dream, can she deal with the challenges of being a housewife in a small Indian town? Can she slay the demons that have pursued her for life, now that she has more time on her hands? And finally, after years of touting India as home, how Indian is she really? This book captures fresh off-the-boat observations and insights of an Indian woman as she observes her country and her-self with the eyes of an adult.

About the Author
Poonam is a biochemical engineer by training and a first time writer. 'Back to Pavilion' is loosely based on what she and her family experienced as they started their journey of settling back in India.

Entertaining - Insightful - Reflective: Good Read Overall !!!

Disclaimer - Poonam is my elder sister so I guess that makes me an interested party ! We are also very close - so I can perhaps not make much of a difference between the views we privately share and those partially reflected in the book.
------------
Read the book last night - infact did not put it down from the beginning to the very end. Light reading in general, with some succinct pointers and observations that reach beyond the obvious. It certainly 'grew' on me as I woke up in the morning...

Back to the Pavilion

Its a wonderful slice of life book! It gave me a sense of deja vu reading this book. Many of the incidents are mirror of my own experiences. Would say must read for people who are planning on coming back to their country or have already done so!
