Summary of the Series
What does it take to make a Manga? What drives a Mangaka to release chapter after chapter of at least 18 pages' worth of manga on a weekly basis? When Moritaka Mashiro forgets his notebook in class, a chance encounter brings the book to Akito Takagi's notice. Takagi has been writing stories all his life, but can't draw to make a manga good enough. However, seeing Mashiro's drawings, he finds hope. He asks Mashiro to join him in making a weekly manga. Mashiro refuses, he wants nothing to do with the manga world especially after his mangaka uncle's untimely death due to his overworking. But the persuasive Takagi makes Mashiro announce their dream of becoming mangaka in front of the one person Mashiro will never lie to, his crush Miho Azuki. In turn, Azuki tells Mashiro that she wishes to become a voice artist. This sets off the adventures of Muto Ashirogi, the pseudonym which Mashiro and Takagi take on, as they set off to become mangaka, dreaming of a serialization in the Weekly Shonen Jump. In their journey, they will discover that the world of published manga is a world of cut-throat competition, high expectations and there is only one word which runs the show: ratings, ratings and more ratings! The series gives readers a never-before view into the world of serialized manga, showing them just how much work goes into bringing out weekly chapters after chapters. Readers will enjoy the references to everything from Naruto to the ever popular Dragon Ball, and the writers' own insights from their serialization of Death Note. The series has since been adapted into an anime television adaptation of the series by J.C.Staff and aired on NHK-E.
