Madhavikutty (1934-2009)
was the daughter of the famous poetess Nalaappattu Balamaniyamma and the managing editor of Mathrubhumi, V.M. Nair. She was born on 31 March 1934. She later adopted the name Kamala Surayya. She used to write in Malayalam and English. She has received the Asian Poetry Prize, Kent Award, Ashan World Prize, Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Short Story Award, Vayalar Award and Ezhuthachan Award. She was honored with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2001. She passed away on 31 May 2009.
