Description
The book has been designed to give new employees of he and students a thorough grounding in all products and services offered by banks together with the relevant theoretical and legal inputs. The emphasis is on the operational and customer service aspects rather than the legal aspects. The relevant legal and regulatory provisions have also been covered when explaining each of the product or service. Starting with an "Overview of Banking", which gives the reader a broad picture of banking, each product and service is explained in detail in subsequent chapters.

The delivery processes or the operational aspects are explained in detail to enable the reader to understand what exactly happens in a bank on day to day basis; in other words, how banking is done. The inputs on "Customer Service" will make the reader aware of the techniques of customer service and the inputs on "Marketing" will enable him to understand how the needs of customers are converted to business opportunities. The chapter on "Monetary Policy" will equip the reader to understand and appreciate the reports and articles that appear in financial dailies relating to 'price', 'liquidity', 'interest rate' and their impact on 'economic growth'. Though a detailed exposition on "Credit" and "Foreign Exchange" is beyond the scope of the book, basic inputs on the topics have been included to make the book a complete banking book. For the benefit of those who have had no exposure to "Financial Accounting" and "Business Mathematics" two chapters on the topics have been added at the end of the book.

A study of the book will enable the readers to become productive employees of banks with the minimum of on the job training, resulting in greater job satisfaction for the employees and higher productivity, lesser errors and greater customer satisfaction for the banks.
