    Description

An excellent tool to help those studying to take up the GRE, Barron's New GRE: The Leader In Test Preparation 2013 (With CD-ROM) is written keeping in mind the new GRE pattern. It includes a simulation test and 2 model tests to benefit the students by familiarizing them to the GRE model.

    Summary Of The Book

GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a standardized examination which should be taken by students looking to get admissions at graduate schools in the US and some other countries. This exam assesses students in various areas like analytical writing, quantitative and verbal reasoning, and critical thinking. A student's GRE score plays a very significant role in acquiring admissions and other scholarships or fellowships. Hence, a great deal of effort and groundwork goes into preparing for the GRE.

The book is completely in line with the new syllabus and includes a large number of problems and exercises. It also comes with a CD-ROM which features a simulation of the original test and two sample tests. This simulation provides a first-hand feel of the test and gives students an idea of what awaits them.

This latest edition of the book covers the GRE syllabus in five parts. The first part begins with an introductory chapter which explains the basic details of the test, it's objectives and other formalities. The rest of this part includes a guided tour on the computer based test, test format, tips and tricks to answering questions, and the diagnostic test. This test has been solved with answers explained. In part 2, the book covers linguistic topics like Sentence Completion, Verbal Ability and Reading and Comprehension. Part 3 tackles Analytical Writing and Essay Writing.

The fourth part addresses Quantitative Ability and covers Quantitative Comparison Questions and Discrete Quantitative Questions.
With its exercises revamped to go with the new pattern and the tests at the end of every part, Barron's New GRE: The Leader In Test Preparation 2013 (With CD-ROM) aims to fully enable GRE aspirants for better performance and higher scores.

    Words list missing!

Yes, the words necessary for scoring the best marks in GRE are missing from the book.
The also book showcases a big advertisement for GREedge.com on the cover page.
And this website keeps informing me that this book by Barron's doesn't have words list and advises me to join a course conducted by them.
All I can say is that this book is incomplete. But it contains practice tests.

Excellent book. Must buy for all GRE aspirants

I wanted to appear for the GRE exam and hence I had gone through many books. I found this book to be refreshing, with newer and different types of tactics to solve the questions.
I really liked the question bank and the detailed solutions and methodologies to solve the questions. I think this is a must buy for all GRE aspirants.

There are a lot of different types of questions and different solutions to them as well. The barrage of questions grill you and you learn with every question. Really...

    Not useful

Having recently used this book as well as having given the GRE exam, I can say that this should be the last book anybody should choose for prudent study for GRE. I had bought the book mainly for the practice tests but found the questions nowhere close to those in the actual test. Same goes for the marks that you score in the practice tests. I wouldn't recommend this book to anybody for GRE. Books like The Official Guide and Princeton Review (which actually gives a superlative explanation and ...

    A good book for novices

This is a good starting point for GRE for novices. If you are the person who is aiming for something in the range 250-300 (on a 340) scale, this book will enough. If however, you are like me who wishes to get a score of 320+, this book is absolute rubbish.

While books like Manhattan GMAT have sentence completions with abstruse words like 'divagations', 'habiliments', 'lugubriosity' etc., Barrons GRE will throw words like 'gradual', 'craven', 'gracious' etc.

On the whole, recommended for a ...

    Self Sufficient

The book contains enormous word list which is more than enough for GRE. I would suggest students to use another dictionary (like wordweb) as well to get a better understanding of the words mentioned in the word list. I personally feel the quantitative section of the book is very helpful. Mock tests given in the book should be revised since actual GRE exam has a little higher level than these tests.
    To summarize:
    Pros-
The book contains enormous word list which is more than enough for GRE.
    The...
