Description
This is a fascinating exploration of the work of radical sculptor Barry Flanagan, from the 1960s to the 1980s. Barry Flanagan (1941-2009) is perceived as one of the most radical and independent sculptors of his generation. His early installations utilised materials such as sand, hessian or rope, upon which he rarely intervened, simply using existing physical characteristics to articulate space. In contrast the bronzes that Flanagan produced from the end of the 1970s onwards, including the giant hares for which he is renowned, were often figurative pieces used to express human endeavours and emotions. This volume presents works by Flanagan from the 1960s to the 1980s, including a selection from the collection of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
