Revisit the legend of the Dark Knight in Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s most famous graphic novel, Batman: Year One.

    Summary of the Book

Gotham City is a dark criminal nest. Crime is rampant in the city, and the mob bosses control everything. No one is safe. Not even the richest and most powerful people. James Gordon is worried. He moves to Gotham with his wife Barbara after a transfer from Chicago to join the Gotham City Police Department. He quickly realizes Gotham is in a whole different league. The rules are very different, and even the cops cannot be trusted. Jim Gordon is far from dirty and will do anything to stick to his morals. He thinks he is alone in his crusade against the criminal scum of Gotham. He is wrong. A billionaire heir returns to the city after 12 years abroad. He has spent the years after his parents’ brutal murder in training, preparing for the war he was about to begin. As James Gordon becomes a minor celebrity for his bravery, the city turns its attentions towards a new terror. Many people spot the creature, it is swathed in black and looks like a giant bat. The creature hunts down the criminal lowlifes of Gotham, working its way up the crime ladder. It doesn’t appear human; it is a thing of the night, a silent protector, a watchful guardian. It calls itself Batman, and criminals are scared for their lives. However, James Gordon isn’t impressed. He doesn’t trust vigilantes, and it doesn’t matter whose side they are on. But who really is the mysterious Batman, and what is the reason for his one man assault against crime?

    How Bruce became the Bat

If there is one book in the plethora of graphic novels out there - on Batman or otherwise - one which can be considered a must read, is Batman: Year One.

Year One is Frank Miller's take on the origins of the Dark Knight, from the unsure and headstrong Bruce Wayne, to the outlaw vigilante he later becomes. As the title suggests, Year One chronicles Bruce Wayne's first year as the caped crusader as the takes on the scum of Gotham and escalates his war on crime.

Comic book story telling at its best

Miller intelligently made this comic book unleashing his lethal storytelling techniques wrapping the whole first year of batman. His utilization of each and every panel is just amazing. He shows us so much with his clever narration and storytelling what jeph loeb could not in his 400 paged Long Halloween or dark victory. On through reading it will take you two hours to finish.
The Bruce Wayne/Batman we see is not Jeph Loeb's 8ft tall hulk.
The Batman we see does not have a batmobile,he is stripp...

The Hero that Gotham deserves....but no the one they need.....

This is a piece of visual literature that sealed Batman's fate as the one of the most memorable and inspiring superheros who although human is clearly a symbol which will always stand for something more.
Batman Year One is basically a take by veteran comic writer Frank Miller; who is known for his original story of 300, on how a young orphan boy of the name of Bruce Wayne and his journey of molding the legend of the Dark Knight.
Dark with ting of 80s noir, deep and captivating this graphic no...

    One feeling : Epic!

The metamorphosis of Bruce into Batman displayed in a visually stunning manner. No doubt Frank Miller is the master of the craft as he brings the elements of action, fun, suspense and drama in this highly acclaimed tale. Batman / No Batman fun, this is one of the best stories ever told about the quest of an ordinary man turning into a savior. Two words: Buy it.

    From a true Batman fan

There came a time in DC universe that they realized that they need to revamp their charecters, re invent them and modify them. so started one of the biggest movement in DC comics to revamp their all super hero lines. so many heroes were tinkered around, new powers and even new origins.
But when they reached Batman unanimously it was decided he would remain the same as he was and will be perfect. All they needed was a new writer and an inspiring new artist. recently frnk miller ha...

Amazing and a must have for all Batman fans

This book is rated as the No 1 Batman Graphic novel of all time by IGN and I agree with that. Neat artwork and a superb story explaining the Origins of Batman. The story and the artwork shows the humane nature of the characters instead of the pulp version they were written for 60 years.

This book is def worth the buy, you can read it again and again and you will not get bored. It is amazing how this book written by Frank Miller 20 years ago is still the best.

FYI the movie Batman begins has...
