Franklin W. Dixon is the pseudonym of several writers, all of them ghostwriting the Hardy Boys series of stories. The name was first used by a Canadian writer called Leslie McFarlane. The rights to the name and the books are owned by Simon & Schuster, a publishing house based in New York.

The Hardy Boys were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, a book-packaging firm.
