Beaker: Expert System for the Organic Chemistry Student, Version 2.1, DOS  (English, Diskette, Brockwell J.C.)

This software system allows students to explore organic chemistry principles, study and solve problems, sketch and analyze molecules, and much more. Using Beaker, students can draw a molecule, or simply type in an IUPAC name and let Beaker do the drawing. Beaker makes sure the drawing is correct chemistry. Beaker answers questions about the structure, naming and reactivity of organic molecules. It allows free access to the subject, so users do not have to plod through a set script. Besides answering questions, Beaker provides practice drawing structural formulas the same way professional chemists do. Beaker does not require a computer whiz; it has menus to pull down and a palette of drawing tools. Beaker facilitates drawing correct structures, so students can concentrate on reasoning, solving problems and learning the language of structural formulas.
